by: Chuck Stowe

ANKENY, Iowa (Nov. 10) – The Dirt Truck Racing Association celebrated its fifth year of competition and its competitors accomplishments during the 2007 DTRA Annual Awards Banquet. The banquet was held at Karl Chevrolet, Ankeny, IA. Over 150 Drivers, Truck Owners, Crew Members and their family attended the Banquet.

DTRA President, Bob Nading was first to address the crowd, addressing the state of DTRA. The DTRA origination is in a very sound financial state commented Nading. This sanctioning body is and always has been driven by its membership through its membership elected Board of Directors. Funds obtained by the organization are used to improve weekly purses, and provide increased purses for special events such as the 2007 Iowa State Fair race that had an option to pay the winner $10,000.00. Unlike most other racing organizations, DTRA funds are used to improve its payouts and support its competing members. Nading reported that DTRA officials were in the process of scheduling events for the 2008 season and securing dates for as many as four special event races that will boast increased purses. Concluding, Nading passed out ballots for the election of members for the 2008 DTRA Board of Directors.

Carl Moyer, owner of Karl Chevrolet the 2007 DTRA Title Sponsor, also addressed the crowed, welcoming them to the banquet. Moyer commented on how pleased he was with the results of the DTRA sponsorship and announced that Karl Chevrolet will return as Title Sponsor for the 2008 DTRA season. Moyer was presented with a plaque from the DTRA in appreciation of his 2007 sponsorship.

Chuck Kuba, owner of Iowa Diamond was also present. Iowa Diamond sponsors all the trophies and plaques presented to DTRA participants during the season as well as all of the trophies and plaques presented during the 2007 banquet. Kuba also presented the 2007 DTRA Champion with a custom made 14kt gold and diamond championship ring. Kuba also announced that the sponsorship of Iowa Diamond would continue for 2008 DTRA season. Kuba was then presented with a plaque from DTRA, in appreciation of his sponsorship in 2007.

Additional Awards of Appreciation were presented to: JR Motorsports, KGGO Radio and Hoosier Race Tires, for their participation and sponsorship of DTRA in 2007. President Nading also recognized Jamie Fontana for her hard work and efforts in arranging and planning the 2007 DTRA Awards Banquet.

Before the Awards Presentation, a catered dinner was served courtesy of Cookies Bar-B-Q Sauce. Speed Herrig himself, owner of Cookies, prepared and served the meal that included; pork, chicken, mashed potatoes with gravy and corn. Entertainment after the awards was provided by country recording artist and Iowa’s own Jason Brown and his acoustical band. The mix of being raised in Iowa and Texas really shows in Jason Brown’s down to earth attitude and hard work ethic. With musical influences ranging from the early 50’s to the present, Jason has learned many different styles and combined them all into his own unique voice. Not only will Jason’s vocals grab you, he has a stage presence that demands your full attention. Jason’s drive and determination, as well as his true love and humble appreciation of his fans, has helped him to develop a rabid, regional following.

In 2006, on an independent label, Jason released his freshman album, “Dream”. With 10 great songs from songwriters like Sherrie’ Austin, Jason Aldean, Wil Rambeaux, and Craig Morgan and strong support from the country stations in Iowa and new ones coming on nationally, it’s no wonder that in a little over a year, all three singles, “Mama Was A Rebel”, “Touchdown”, and, most recently, “You Don’t Play Fair”, have landed in the top 70 of R&R and MediaBase Country charts.
