Nezworski rumbles to IMCA Late Model win at Davenport by Mike McGuire DAVENPORT, Ia. (May 30) - Heavy morning showers and several afternoon sprinkles made for a rough, but tacky-fast racetrack at the Davenport Speedway, Friday night. The racing action yielded two repeat winners and four first-time 2008 Davenport Speedway winners. Andy Nezworski turned around what had been only an average 2008 season at Davenport, by winning the IMCA Late Model feature. Nezworski was running second to Eric Gustaf, when Gustaf’s ride coasted to a stop on lap 19 of the 25-lap race. Once in the lead, Nezworski would rocket off to the win. Boone McLaughlin started tenth, but worked his way up to a second place finish. Terry Neal had an up and down race before taking third. Matt Ryan finished fourth and Keith Pratt took fifth. IMCA Late Model heat wins went to Nezworski, Neal, and Hershel Roberts. Chuck Hanna used his pole starting position to his advantage, as he led flag to flag in the Pro Mod feature. Hanna also won the Pro Mod heat race. Matt Stein started second and would follow Hanna the entire distance. Thad Wilson was third after starting sixth in the race that went green, white, checkered. Rick Ratliff and Bob Dominacki were fourth and fifth respectively. Street Stock action saw the fourth different winner in as many races. This time it was Davenport’s Jeremy Marquette taking the checkers. Marquette jumped out to an early lead and led every lap. Cary Brown ran to a strong second place finish with Tony VonDresky coming from last to finish third. Tod Stickler made it three in a row in the B-Mod class. Stickler made a bold move to the outside on the feature race’s final restart to snag the lead from Chad Tomlinson. Chris Stein finished second with Kelly Meyer third and early race leader, Tomlinson fourth. Joe Jones Jr. rounded out the top five. Aaron Meyer earned his first career victory in the INEX Legend Car main. Meyer took over the lead on lap three and held off veteran racer Warren Ropp and his brother, Jeremy to take the win. Ryan Bales and Ken Burns rounded out the top five. Wade Dahl continued his streak in 4 Cylinder Stock action. Dahl stayed undefeated on the season, capturing his fourth straight win. Kevin Haury finished second with Ricky Kay third. Next Friday, June 6th, is Make-A-Wish night at the Davenport Speedway. The event is sponsored by Swiss Valley Farms and LegendsCentral.com, and features an appearance by Dwyer & Michaels’ 97X Work Release Party.
