Ryan Rolls to Davenport Late Model win
by  Mike McGuire

DAVENPORT, Ia. (May 1, 2009) – Matt Ryan led flag to flag, to win the IMCA Late Model feature Friday night at the Davenport Speedway. Ryan started on the outside of the front row and pulled away from pole sitter Boone McLaughlin. Lapped traffic would then come into play and McLaughlin erased Ryan’s lead.

Ryan would clear the lapped cars first and would regain a sizeable lead, which he would hold to the checkers. McLaughlin held off Terry Neal to finish second. Neal was followed by Kevin Blum and Nate Buesling.

Neal, Buesling, and Mike Garland won IMCA Late Model heats, while Hershel Roberts won the semi. Thirty IMCA Late Models were on hand for the event.

Thad Wilson made it two for two in the Pro Mod class for 2009. Wilson would take the lead of the feature when Bob Dominacki had a little trouble following a restart. Wilson blasted out front and was untouchable the rest of the race. Early race leader Tony VonDresky would finish second with Dominacki recovering for third. John Bull, who was also involved in an on track incident early in the race came back for fourth with Chuck Hanna fifth. Wilson and Dominacki took the Pro Mod heats.

IMCA Modifieds rocked out another rough and tumble main event. When the dust settled, Rich Smith of Davenport, landed in victory lane. Smith started the IMCA Mod main in the eleventh position, but had the lead on lap two. His lead was short-lived as Smith would have to pit during a lap five caution for a flat rear tire.

While Smith was working his way back through the field, Max Corporon and Mike Fluegel battled for the lead with both drivers holding the lead a couple of times. Aided by a couple of cautions, Smith came back to make it a three-way fight for the lead late in the race.

Coming to the white flag, Smith used the bottom groove to retake the lead and the win. Corporon finished second, Fluegel third, and Todd Dykema fourth. Dustin Crear finished fifth.

Andrew Burk fought off Jeremy Marquette down the stretch to capture the Street Stock feature. Marquette would settle for second with Tim Koehler making a late race charge to take third. Joe Beal and Matt Werner rounded out the top five. Burk, Cary Brown, and Aaron Burroughs won the Street Stock heats.

Sauk City, Wisconsin’s Eric Barth stayed perfect on the season at the Davenport Speedway. Barth won both his heat and feature again in the INEX Legend Car division. Barth came from a fifth row starting spot to take the lead by lap four and stayed out front until the checkers. Warren Ropp was second for the second straight week. Craig Peekenschnieder was third followed by Jeremy and Aaron Meyer.

Jeremy Campbell continued his reign on the CrashedToys.com 4 Stocks. Campbell started in the fourth row, but quickly took over the top spot. Once in the lead, Campbell had to hold off Josh Riley and Jacob Ellithorpe for the win. Riley would finish second, ahead of Ellithorpe. Rob Brasher and Josh Hazen completed the top five.

The racing action shifts to the Jackson County Speedway in Maquoketa, Saturday night. Due to rain outs, Saturday’s races will be the 2009 Season Opener for JCS. The added attraction for the evening is the INEX Legend Cars making their first of two appearances at Maquoketa this season.
