WAPELLO COUNTY FAIR CHECKERS TO WAYLAND, NUNNIKHOVEN, CARTER AND MATHER

ELDON, IA (June 18) - The traditional 2009 Wapello County Fair race was held Thursday night with fans getting a chance to see cars return to the super half-mile with four classes in action.

The first feature was the four cylinder division with Tyler Wayland and Jim Garrett leading the field to the green. The two would battle the first three laps before Wayland would pull away in the orange 07 for the win.

The battle for second would go to John Wayland and Jim Garrett in third followed by Larry Hopkins in fourth. The b-modified feature would see the two team cars of Team Jimmy’s of Oskaloosa make up the front row with Cayden Carter and Carter Vandenberg battling for the lead. Carter would take the lead and hold off the teammate and the last lat charge by Jason McDaniel who would finish in a close second with Carter beating McDaniel by a half a bumper. Vandenberg would take third followed by Andrew Schroeder in fourth.

The A-modifieds would take the track for the fourteen lap event with Colt Mather handling the field leading very lap. Greg Cox and Scott Dickey would battle for the second spot with Cox taking second with Matt Waugh of Des Moines in third and Terry Doud of Batavia in fourth.

The final feature was the hobby stocks with a full field of twenty-four cars in action with Danny Thrasher leading the way before Don Nunnikhoven of Kellog would make it a two car battle with Nunnikhoven taking the lead and winning his first feature of 2009 driving for Mark Moore of Ottumwa and pocketed a extra $100 from Payday Today in Ottumwa. Dustin Griffiths would make the pass on Thrasher for the runner-up spot with Thrasher dropping back to finish fifth. Jason McDaniel would make his return to the hobby stock division finishing in third and Tony Teninity of Eldon in fourth.
