DAVENPORT, Ia. (July 17, 2009) – Unusually cool temperatures kept the racing fast at the Davenport Speedway on Friday. The racing was so fast, the entire program was run in just under three hours. The hot and cold season of Mike Murphy Jr. was smoking Friday. The defending Track Tamer Engines Late Model track champion collected his second feature win of the season in style. Todd Malmstrom led the opening lap of the twenty-five lap main, then Keith Pratt took over. Pratt led three laps, before Murphy put his ride out front. Once in the lead, Murphy would go untouched in the green, white, checkered race. At the checkers, Murphy held almost a half lap lead over second place Kevin Blum. Ray Guss Jr. finished third, driving Hershel Roberts’ racecar. Fred Remley and Pratt completed the top five. Murphy, Blum, and Guss each won an IMCA Late Model heat race. Stephan Kammerer won the consi. In Pro Mod action, Doug Crampton took home the trophy. Crampton grabbed the lead from Craig Crawford on lap four and never looked back. The victory was Crampton’s third of the season. John Ahlers finished second after running near the front the entire race. Thad Wilson and John Bull finished third and fourth respectively after starting eighth and tenth. Crawford held on to finish fifth. Andrew Burk drove to his third feature win this season in the Street Stock main. Burk took the lead from Cary Brown on lap six and would lead the rest of the way to the checkers. Joe Beal also got by Brown to finish second. Brown took third, followed by Jeremy Marquette and early race leader Bruce Fosdyck Jr. The IMCA Modifieds held another wildly exciting feature event, with the same results. This week three yellow flags flew before the first lap was complete and by lap four, tenth place starter, Max Corporon was leading the race. Corporon raced to his sixth feature win in nine point races this season. Joe Jones Jr. finished a strong second, with Mike Fluegel third. Matt Wilson took four th, while early race leader Terry Rentfro came home fifth. The CrashedToys.com 4 Stocks also saw a repeat winner as Scott Powell picked up his second straight win. Powell earned the win by passing Josh Riley a couple of times on his way to the checkers. Josh Riley passed Kevin Haury on lap three of the race and was instantly under attack from Powell. The two would swap the lead twice before Powell went in front for good. Riley would settle for second, followed by Haury, Steve Boyle, and Tim Goettsch, in that order. In the Bulltown Legends of Iowa feature, Eric Barth continued his reign of terror over the INEX Legend Car class at Davenport. The Sauk City, Wisconsin racer now seven wins in seven appearances at Davenport this season. Barth drove fr om a ninth starting position to the lead by end of lap two.
