Barth, Riley, and Stein post wins before rain
by  Mike McGuire

DAVENPORT, Ia. (July 24, 2009) – Despite a rather bleak weather forecast, the racing program started as scheduled Friday night at the Davenport Speedway. Unfortunately Mother Nature had other plans. The rain started five laps into the Street Stock feature. The remainder of the Street Stock main, along with the Pro Mod and IMCA Late Model features, will be made up at a time to be determined.

In the IMCA Modified feature, young Hunter Wilson led the first nine laps. Joe Jones Jr., put his racecar out front on lap ten, but would lead only one lap. Chris Stein got by Jones and would lead the remaining laps to the checkers.=2 0Jones would hold on for second with Rob Nylin moving up to third. Hunter Wilson hung on for a fourth place finish, with Matt Wilson rounding out the top five. The victory was Stein’s first of the season at Davenport.

The CrashedToys.com 4 Stocks point leader, Josh Riley finally picked up his second feature win of the year. Riley had been shut out of the winner’s circle since May.

Riley took the lead of the feature on the second lap, after starting tenth. Travis Wilson, who started eighth, led lap one, and finished second. Kevin Haury took third, with Tim Goetsch fourth, and Steve Boyle fifth.

The only thing that has stopped INEX Legends driver Eric Barth this season is the drive from Sauk City, Wisconsin. Barth has won eight out eight Bulltown Legends of Iowa features. Fell ow Wisconsin driver, Mike Mueller finished second after starting last. Dominic Bates led the local contingent in third, followed by Jeremy Meyer and Craig Peekenchnieder.

Racers and fans are urged to tune in to the News Channel 8, 10pm news on Wednesday, July 29th. WQAD is scheduled to show a special segment on IMCA Late Model driver Hershel Roberts. The news crew followed Hershel to a couple of  local tracks in preparing the segment.
