Countdown to Davenport Speedway Season Championship
2 Races to Go…

DAVENPORT, Iowa (August 19) – After last Friday’s exciting racing action, two drivers were able to extend their points lead, three leads shrank, and one class saw a change in the leader’s spot. Only two races remain, and points will be at a premium.

Ray Guss Jr., was able to extend his point lead in the Track Tamer Engines IMCA Late Models. Guss won both his heat and feature last Friday, increasing his lead over second place Matt Ryan to 24 points. Kevin ‘the Wildman’ Blum is third in points, 29 markers back.

When John Bull was unable to start the Pro Mod feature on Friday the point leader fell back to second20position. Thad Wilson, who won Friday’s feature in dramatic fashion, advanced to the points lead. John Bull is still in the hunt, six points back. Bob Dominacki is right behind, third in the point standings, just seven points behind Wilson.

Street Stock point leader, Andrew Burk, got caught up in a 5-car pile-up Friday. The crash did not change the order in the point standings, but the numbers surely did. Burk now holds a precarious three point lead over Joe Beal and five markers over Jeremy Marquette. Cary Brown and Tim Koehler are also still alive in the title hunt.

IMCA Modified points leader, Max Corporon had a poor outing on Friday, finishing 11th, in his feature. However Corporon’s 57 point lead, means he only needs to start the final two races to clinch the championship. Chris Stein of Davenport, is now second in points, after winning Friday’s IMCA Modified feature.

Josh Riley finished second in Friday’s feature and extended his lead in the CrashedToys.com 4 Stock class. Travis Wilson is a distant second in the point standings. Riley also needs only to start the final two features to clinch the track title.

Jeremy Meyer still leads the points in the Bulltown Legends of Iowa INEX Legend division. Meyer will be looking over his shoulder, as Eric Barth has moved into the second position in the point standings. Including Friday’s victory, Barth now has ten feature wins at Davenport in ten appearances. Barth is now only twenty points behind Meyer. Matt Montieth and Craig Peekenschnieder are both 27 points behind.
Weekly racing action this Friday, August 21st, will include a National Qualifying event for the INEX Legends cars. The INEX Legend Car Dirt Nationals will be held in October, at East Lincoln Speedway, in North Carolina.

This Friday is also Kid’s Back to School Night at the Davenport Speedway. Kids 12 and under will be admitted free with a paid adult. Bike races will be held for the kids, following the racing program. Helmets are mandatory.

The 2009 Davenport Speedway Season Championships will be run on Friday, August 28th.
