Big Game Treestands manager denies rumors of team split

DES MOINES, IA (Sept. 9) - Contrary to Internet rumors, the Big Game
Treestands sprint car team is not being sold, according to Team Operators
Manager Rich Toews. The posting of online classified ads selling team motors
and the hauler sparked speculation that the team would be sold after this
season, leaving driver Terry McCarl out of a ride, but Toews said that the
team is fully operational and expects to have a busy rest of the season.
“No one’s been let go from the team, and Terry’s still the Big Game driver,”
Toews said. “If we sold everything off, that would probably take up four or
five pages of ads. It would be few cars and thousands of dollars of parts on
it.”
Toews said that the engines were being sold to make room for new equipment
next year, while the team was putting the trailer on the market to gauge
interest but might reuse it next year if it isn’t sold.
“We’re getting a head start on our engine sales for this year,” Toews said.
“We got a late start last year, and we got into an engine package later in
the year that we’re going to be moving towards.”
Toews also said the team plans on running a full schedule through the end of
the year, including World of Outlaws dates in the Midwest and the World
Finals at Lowe’s Motor Speedway, as well as ome big money 360 races around
the Midwest and East Coast. McCarl has driven for Quiring since selling his
team to him late last year. The two have found significant success in the
last year, with Quiring winning the 2009 owner’s championship at Knoxville
Raceway this past weekend and McCarl earning 16 wins while concentrating on
the Midwest.
