Friday Super Nationals qualifiers fall to Noteboom, Williams,
Lyons
BOONE, Iowa (Sept. 11) – A driver who’s been collecting wins around the
United States and in Canada picked up what could lead to his biggest victory
of the season Friday night at Boone Speedway.
Jay Noteboom took the lead on the sixth of 20 laps and ran in front the rest
of the way in capturing the first of three IMCA Speedway Motors Super
Nationals qualifying features.
Brad Williams and Kelly Lyons made Saturday’s main event with wins in the
second and third features. They’ll be joined in the big dance by runners-up
Mike Albertsen, Randy Havlik and Mark Elliott.
Albertsen moved into the second spot just before midway and chased Noteboom
for the duration of the caution-free contest.
Williams needed longer to get to the front, finally crossing the stripe in a
dead heat with Corey Lagroon on the 15th lap. Havlik took the transfer spot
on the last circuit.
Pole starter Lyons ran in front from start to finish in the nightcap.
Elliott made his way up from ninth, passing Dylan Smith after a restart on
lap 11.
The six qualifiers from Friday meet in a Saturday pole dash to decide their
starting order on the outside row of the main event later in the evening.
Last-chance races will send the final 15 cars to the field of 33.
Noteboom made his career sixth Modified main event, Havlik his fifth,
Elliott his fourth in a row, Williams his third in a row, Lyons his second
and Albertsen his first.
