World of Outlaws Preview: Clay County Fair Speedway

SPENCER, IA (Sept 15) - The World of Outlaws return to Clay County Fair Speedway in Spencer, Iowa again this week on Wednesday, September 19 for the third annual Arnold Motor Supply Shooutout.

Donny Schatz, the three-time and defending series champion, is undefeated in the two previous races at the 3/8-mile located at the historic Clay County Fairgrounds. The North Dakota native picked up the win over his teammate Kraig Kinser last season while he was victorious over Joey Saldana and Craig Dollansky in 2007 in the series debut at Clay County Fair Speedway.

The race at Clay County Fair Speedway will be the fourth and final event of the season in the state of Iowa for the World of Outlaws as the season continues to wind down, with just 11 points paying race remaining on the docket.

The Arnold Motor Supply Shooutout on Wednesday, September 19 will again be promoted this by Craig Dollansky, who is in his first season driving for Kasey Kahne Racing, and his wife Julie, who is originally from Spencer, Iowa.

The event will kick off with the Arnold Motor Supply Pit Crew Challenge on Wednesday at 5 p.m. Central in front of the grandstands, with crews competing against each other to see who can perform a front end change the quickest.

Slidejobs-Clay County Fair Speedway:

Undefeated: Donny Schatz has won both of the previous World of Outlaws events at Clay County Fair Speedway, leading a total of 23 laps in those two events. The North Dakota native won from the sixth starting spot in 2007 and came from the second row last year. He is the current series point leader on the strength of 12 A-Feature wins and 45 Top-10 finishes, with 35 of those being Top-Five performances as he chases his fourth consecutive title. He won in his most recent start in the state of Iowa, taking home the top prize in the Knoxville Nationals for the fourth consecutive time. He also won earlier this season at Knoxville in a World of Outlaws event.

On the podium Joey Saldana has finished on the podium in both of his starts at Clay County Fair Speedway, coming home second in his debut at the track in 2007 and finishing third last season. The native of Brownsburg, Indiana currently leads the World of Outlaws in wins with 17 A-Feature victories and is third in points as he chases his first series title. He was victorious earlier this season in Iowa at 34 Raceway and has six career wins in the Hawkeye State. He is currently third in the series championship standings just 65 markers out of the top spot.

One more spot: Kraig Kinser led 26 laps at Clay County Fair Speedway last season, which is the most of any driver in the two previous visits for the World of Outlaws to the track. He wound up finishing second to his teammate Donny Schatz last season at the 3/8-mile. He has racked up 28 Top-10 finishes this season and is currently eighth in points. The third generation driver has two career wins in the state of Iowa.

A busy man: Craig Dollansky along with his wife Julie will again be promoting the race at Clay County Fair Speedway this season. He finished third in the inaugural World of Outlaws race at the track in town where his wife was born and raised. In his first season driving for Kasey Kahne Racing as a teammate to Joey Saldana, Dollansky has won three times and is just 20 points behind Danny Lasoski for the sixth spot in the standings. The native of Elk River, Minnesota has won 14 times in his career in the state of Iowa.

Closing in: Jason Meyers finished fourth at Clay County Fair Speedway last season. The California native has finished in the Top-10 in all three World of Outlaws events in Iowa this season and has two career victories in the state. He has won eight times overall this season and is currently second in points just 29 markers out of the top spot as he chases his first career title.

Looking to change his luck: Clay County Fair Speedway is one of just a handful of tracks on the World of Outlaws circuit that 20-time series champion Steve Kinser has not won at. He has had bad luck in both of his previous starts at the 3/8-mile and looks to change that this year. He enters the event with two wins on the season and is currently fourth in points. In his career in the state of Iowa, he has 60 wins, with most of those coming at the famed Knoxville Raceway.

Continuing a strong season: Jason Sides heads to Clay County Fair Speedway in the fifth spot in points on the strength of 41Top-10 finishes. He won earlier this season at Ohsweken Speedway in Canada. He has finished sixth or better in all three of the World of Outlaws events in the state of Iowa this season. He has one career win in Iowa, with that coming in 2002 in a Gumout Series race. The 2003 Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year finished second on the final two nights of the Gold Cup Race of Champions at Silver Dollar Speedway most recently.

Hoping the third time is the charm: Danny Lasoski will make his third start with the World of Outlaws at Clay County Fair Speedway this week. The 2001 series champion is chasing his first Top-10 finish at the track located at the historic fairgrounds. He has won five times this season including on a 3/8-mile track at Nodak Speedway in North Dakota. He is currently battling Jason Sides for the fifth spot in the series championship standings.

Still chasing that elusive first win of the year: Jac Haudenschild continues to chase his first win of the 2009 campaign. He has racked up nearly 26 Top-10 finishes with 12 being Top-Five performances. He finished ninth at Clay County Fair Speedway last season and has won a total of 18 times in his Hall of Fame career in the state of Iowa. He is currently ninth in points.

Second time around: Lucas Wolfe, the reigning Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year with the World of Outlaws, will make his second start at Clay County Fair Speedway this week. The native of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania has picked up a couple of Top-10 finishes in the state of Iowa this season. He is currently 10th in the series championship standings as he continues his sophomore season on the road. He finished fourth in the opener of the Gold Cup Race of Champions last week.

Adding another track to the list: Brian Ellenberger, the leading contender for the Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Award this season, will visit Clay County Fair Speedway for the first time in his career this week. The native of Butler, Pennsylvania continues to gain priceless experience as he visits tracks for the first time in his rookie season on the road. He has picked up four Top-10 finishes this season including a career-best third-place performance at Dodge City Raceway Park in Kansas earlier this season.
