WDRL COMPETES SATURDAY IN THE PRESTIGIOUS IOWA GOVERNOR'S CUP
Race set for Cedar County Raceway in Tipton, Iowa

TIPTON, Iowa (Oct. 8, 2009) - The WORLD Dirt Racing League Late Models will be making their final trip this Saturday, Oct. 10, for an exciting 50-lap feature race, the prestigious Iowa Governor's Cup, a must-see event for racing fans. It takes place at the Cedar County Raceway, located at the Cedar County Fairgrounds on the northwest corner of this eastern Iowa community.

"This race is being promoted by Stuart Motorsports of East Moline, Ill.," said the WDRL's Jim Wilson.

Wilson added: "The people in eastern Iowa have always been strong supporters of the WDRL, with some traveling several hundred miles to see the WDRL drivers. Now it's like coming home and seeing old friends every time we go to that area of the Midwest.."

The WORLD Dirt Racing League, a Midwest-based dirt track touring series that began in 2002, always draws a strong field of Super Late Models for this race.

Drivers expected to compete are the defending WDRL champion and current point leader, Iowa's Chad Simpson; one of the best chauffeurs out of Kansas who is currently second in points, Al Purkey; eastern Iowa's Flying Eckrich Brothers, Denny and Dave; the Wisconsin Gentleman, John Kaanta; plus Chris Simpson, Eric Pember and Chad Mahder.

A few of the many other WDRL drivers expected at the Governor's Cup are Brian Birkhofer, Gordie Seegart, Rob Moss, Curt Martin, Jeremy Grady, Tim Isenberg, Andrew McKay and Matt Furman.

Driver registration will begin at 1 p.m. on race day, Oct. 10, with practice at 6:15, and racing action at 7.

"This promises to be a great show," said Wilson. "The winner's share will be $5,000, and the drivers will be battling to the Iowa Governor's Cup checkered flag not only for the money but also the glory of winning this prestigious race."
