GRIMES, IOWA (March 9, 2010) – Brett Moffitt, the seventeen year old NASCAR K&N Pro Series championship contender, will begin his sophomore season on March 27th, when he heads to Greenville-Pickens Speedway for his first race in the #20 Joe Gibbs Racing prepared Toyota. During the short off-season, the young driver from Grimes, Iowa, has been busy. Moffitt attended the NASCAR K&N Pro Series 2009 banquet, began a series of meetings with the JGR organization, and signed to drive for them in 2010. Moffitt also attended the first mandatory rookie meeting, which was recently implemented by NASCAR. NASCAR now requires anyone who is a rookie in any of their divisions and/or any driver under twenty-one years of age to attend these orientation meetings. “I was shocked when I got there to find I was in the company of drivers like Danica Patrick, Joey Logano, and a host of experienced drivers who were moving up to a new series,” Moffitt commented. Darrell Waltrip and Humpy Wheeler co-hosted part of the seminar, which included topics like the history and heritage of NASCAR, what to expect at and away from the track, the preservation of the NASCAR image, as well as how to build a personal and marketable business image, and what to expect as you move from one division to another up the ladder in your racing career. Most recently, Moffitt traveled to Charlotte, along with mentor and driving coach, Bob Harris. The pair spent a couple of days at the Joe Gibbs Racing shops, taking care of pre-season business. On the agenda was getting Moffitt fitted in the three different cars he will be driving in pursuit of the 2010 NASCAR K&N Pro Series championship. Hand-in-hand with the seat fitting, Moffitt was also introduced to Bryant Frazier, who will serve as his crew chief, and to the rest of the team, who will work and travel with Moffitt’s #20 JGR Toyota. Harris commented, “I was very impressed with the JGR organization, and I was most impressed at how up-beat the crew members were about having Brett as their driver. Many commented on how they were impressed with Brett last year and how happy they were to have Brett at JGR in 2010.” Moffitt added, “I was really impressed with the shop. Our NASCAR K&N Pro Series cars are housed in the same shop as the JGR Nationwide Series cars, and it is very obvious that the teams all work together in an effort to achieve success. It will also be a new experience to have a primary car, a back-up car, and a spare back in the shop. I was also excited to have lunch while we were there with J.D. Gibbs. He has to be a very busy man, and I appreciate it very much that he took the time to have lunch and visit with Bob and me while we were at the shop.” After a couple of days at the JGR shop and some adventures around Charlotte, it was back home and back to school for the young Moffitt. Sometimes it is hard to remember that Brett is still a teen and a sophomore at Johnston High School. But, for those who have been following him for approximately the last three years, it is easy to see that he is on his way to becoming an elite member of one of auto racing’s most prestigious clubs, a NASCAR Sprint Cup driver. Up next for Moffitt is testing at Greenville-Pickens Speedway, Greenville, NC, on March 16th, in preparation for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series season opener there on March 27th.
