Guss Only Repeat Winner at JCS
by Ed Potter

MAQUOKETA, IOWA (May 29) -Saturday was Kile Motorsports night at Jackson County Speedway and the nights competition only produced one repeat winner.  Brett Diercks came from his third place starting spot to take the lead of the B & D Pit Stop IMCA Late Model feature on the first lap.  Diercks was doing just fine until an eleventh lap caution flag.  On the restart second heat winner, Ray Guss Jr went by and went on unchallenged to take his second Jackston County victory of the season.  Cory Goldbeck was chasing Guss but couldn’t get close enough to do any real challenging and had to settle for second.  Eleventh place starter, Bryan Klein was third with first heat winner, Ryan Duhme taking fourth.  On his first regular visit to the speedway this year Justin Kay rounded out the top five.

The rest of the visitors to victory lane were first timers for this year.  Gade Racing Engines/Shirts ‘n’ Stuff Pro Modified pole sitter, Timmy Current charged out front of the feature and was in control until the second and last caution flew at lap twelve.  On the restart third place runner, Jake Bowman got his nose out front but couldn’t hold it as four laps later Current went back out front.  Current went on for his first win of the season with Bowman settling for second.  Bart Miller was third with heat winner, Ray Cox Jr fourth and Doug Crampton fifth.

Despite three early cautions and a race ending caution on the white flag lap Jed Holland used his pole starting spot in the Street Stock feature to lead all the way for his first visit to victory lane this year.  Second heat winner, Kevin Brame took a strong second with Chip Kohl coming from tenth to take third on his first regular season visit to the speedway.  Dan Mohr was fourth with Phil Anderson fifth.  Mitch Schmitz won the other heat.

The IMCA Modified feature saw the caution fly five times in total, the last at lap ten for Dave Bielenberg as he rolled his car off turn three.  Pole sitter Tyler Soippe led the first two laps when the caution flew.  On the restart Ray Cox Jr, doing double duty took over the point and the caution flew three laps later.  On this restart Keith Feller went to the front and never looked back again as he went on for his first win of the year.  Behind him a battle was going on between Cox and Jerry Pratt.  Cox ended up taking second with Pratt third.  Dan Klatt worked his way from his nineteenth place starting spot to take fourth, with Matt Wilson fifth.  The heats were won by Todd Dykema, Joe Anders and Cox.

The Hobby Stock feature went with only two cautions and had Matt McGranahan taking the early lead.  Kile Vohringer edged out front to lead lap five, but on lap six second heat winner, Justin Yarolem charged out front and held on the rest of the way to take his first checkers of the season.  On a last lap charge Cameron Sorgenfrey moved in to take second over Sheldon Hunter’s third.  Nate Yoerger was fourthwith Vohringer holding on for fifth.  Shawn Flagel was the other heat winner.

Robbie Harding Jr used his front row starting spot to take the lead of the caution free 4-Stock feature with Jake Ellithorpe taking over on lap four.  Ellithorpe went on for his first win of the year with second heat winner, Lane Vohringer taking second.  Jeremy Campbell came from his fifteenth place starting spot to take third with first heat winner, Ricky Kay fourth.  Gene Potter rounded out the top five.
