DAVENPORT, Ia. (June 11, 2010) – Stock car racing action returned to the Davenport Speedway Friday night with the evening’s program sponsored by Casey’s General Stores. Over one hundred cars were on hand to do battle on the Davenport quarter-mile oval. The Petersen Plumbing and Heating IMCA Late Model feature was tough on both cars and drivers as only six of the twenty-one starters reached the finish. The first victim was Mike Guldenpfennig, who flipped in turn one on lap three. Mike walked away from the accident. The racing resumed with Matt Ryan out in front. Lap eleven saw Nate Buesling take over the top spot. Buesling would lead the rest of the way for the win, with Ryan holding on for second. Through late race attrition, Doug Nigh finished third, followed by Gary Webb and Tony VonDresky. Late model heat race wins went to Kevin Blum, Bret Diercks, and Mark Preston. The Goacher Towing Pro Mod feature started out at a blistering pace with the first sixteen laps caution-free. The last four laps were a different story. Chad Patch used a front row start to lead the first eleven laps. John Bull muscled to the lead on lap twelve and on lap seventeen the cautions started coming. The most serious caution was a 3-car collision that took out half the top six cars. Involved in the crash were Patch, Bob Dominacki, and winner of the last three races at Davenport, Doug Crampton. Bull survived for the win, while Tim Arp came from dead last start to finish second. Thad Wilson finished third, ahead of Ray Cox Jr., and Craig Crawford. Cary Brown scored his second Koehler Electric Street Stock feature win of the season. Brown fended off Matt Werner to take the checkered flag. Brown was running third when race leaders Scott Griffin and Ron Marks Jr. tangled in turn one late in the race. Brown inherited the lead on the restart and drove to the win. Werner finished a close second with Bruce Fosdyck Jr third. Marks fought his way back to a fourth place finish, with Phil Anderson fifth. Hunter Wilson collected his first ever EMS IMCA Modified feature win Friday. Hunter took the lead from Matt Wilson and held off Andrew Burk and Jake Waterman late in the race to get the win. Burk fought off Waterman’s late charge to take second with Jake finishing third. Dan Klatt and Jerry Pratt rounded out the top five. Warren Ropp scored his first victory of the 2010 season in the Bulltown Legends of Iowa feature. Ropp started up front and led all 15 laps. Jeremy Meyer made a strong bid for the lead before coming in contact with a back marker and bringing out the caution. Following Ropp to the checkers were Craig Peekenschnider in second, Keith Meyer third, Mike Mueller fourth, and Dominic Bates fifth. A full field of 4 Stocks were on hand Friday. John Scott grabbed the early lead after starting on the pole. Mike Morrow would take up the lead a couple laps later. Morrow would survive the challenges of Chris James and Kile Vohringer who would both drop out of the race. Morrow would take his second victory of the season, followed by Kevin Haury, Andy Maberry, and John Scott. There will no stock car racing action at the Davenport Speedway next Friday night, due to the Sturgis on the River motorcycle event. Next race will be the Mid-Season Championships, Friday June 25th.
