Sunday Night Wins at Dubuque
By: Larry Bontz
DUBUQUE, IOWA (June 21) - After a weeks abscence because of weather racing
action resumed here sunday night at the Dubuque County Fairgrounds on
fathers day with racing action in all six divisions.
In the IMCA late model division veteran Terry Neal charged to the front of
the twenty five lapper from his front row pole starting position leading the
first six laps until his mount suffered a bad universal joint ending his
night.Dan Shelliam running second inherited the lead and lead through lap
twenty one.Joel Callahan making his charge to the front dove underneath
Shelliam for the lead on lap twenty two.Andy Eckrich following in pursuit
gave Callahan all he wanted but the dubuque speedster would prevail on this
night. The win was Callahans second of the season.Andy Eckrich was
second,Dan Shelliam third,Jeremiah Hurst fourth, with Luke Merfeld going home
to get a backup car coming from the rear after losig a motor in the heat
race in his primary car placing fifth.
Pete Bonin was probably without a doubt the happiest driver in victory lane
sunday night. A smile on his face from ear to ear, this driver who has been
racing for nine years, seven of those in a modified, had just recorded his
first career modified win winning the twenty lapper with veteran Ronnie
Barker on his heels at the end. Bonin lead the race from flag to flag.Barker
himself had to scurry home to change engines come back in time to place
second,Tony Von Dresky third,Jason Ulenhofen fourth, with Timmy Current
fifth.
The twelve lap stock car feature went down to the wire as well. Andy Hedrick
lead the first two laps before Joe Bonney grabbed the point and seemed to
have everything in control. A couple of cautions later Jerry Miles was
making a late race charge for the lead as well.Bonney lead through lap
ten,Miles had lap eleven in his corner, and as both drivers came out of turn
four to the yellow pole where the races are scored Jerry Miles beat Joe
Bonney by a nose in a barn burner of a finish.Bonney was second,Kevin Brame
third,Terry Rittmer fourth, with Jarret Franzen fifth.
In the twelve lap b-mod feature Curt Christ grabbed the lead at the outset
and lead from flag to flag for his first win of 2010.Jed Freiburger who had
a flat early on came from fifteenth back at one point to finish second,John
Campbell Sr. another good run finishing third,Tim Current fourth, with Jeff
Willis fifth.
Tyler Soppe took the lead on the eighth lap and lead the rest of the way
winning the ten lap limited stock feature for his second win of the season.
Larry Schultz was second, Steve Miller third, Hope Schmerebach fourth, with
Ryan Federmann fifth.
Tyler Kelly passed Wes Digman on the third lap and went on to win the ten
lap flyer feature for his first win of 2010 at the Dubuque Speedway. Jeremy
Vasquez was second, Derek McBee third, Ryan Schilling fourth, with Anthony
