Jewell, Traver, Bonney and Duhme Get First Wins
by Ed Potter

MAQUOKETA, IOWA (June 26) - Saturday was I Wireless kids night at Jackson County Speedway.  During intermission bike races were held for the kids.  These races were won by Dawson Buchanan, Jock Anderson and Tate Hotler.  Also for the evening four new winners were produced in the regular night of racing.  Hobby Stock and Pro Modified had the only repeat winners.  Brandon Jewell came from his fourth place starting spot to lead the first lap of the 4-Stock feature and then the caution flew.  On the restart it appeard like Jake Ellithorpe took over with Jewell in tow.  It seemed Ellithorpe took the win, but in post race inspection his car was found to be illegal giving Jewell his first victory of the season.  Gene Potter was second with second heat winner, Rob Harding Sr. third.  First heat winner Robbie Harding Jr. was fourth followed by Lane Vohringer’s fifth.

Matt McGranahan used his pole starting spot to take the lead of the Hobby Stock feature on the drop of the green, and led lap one.  Once again it was caution time.  It took a total of three cautions before the second lap was scored.  On the restart McGranahan went back out front, but on lap five Justin Yarolem got by.  Yarolem went on for his second win of the year.  McGranahan tried to get back to him but had to settle for second.  Shawn Flagel was third with Bruce Yoerger fourth and Sheldon Hunter fifth.  Kile Vohringer and D. J. Fuller were the heat winners.

The IMCA Modified feature also saw a new winner.  First heat winner, Andrew Burk used his outside front row starting spot to take the lead as soon as the green fell.  Only one caution flew early in the race, but it didn’t sow Burk down as he continued to lead until the white flag lap.  On the white flag lap as a lapped car became involved, second heat winner, Ben Traver snatched the lead and went on to take the checkers for his first win of the season.  Burk held on for second with Terry Rentfro third.  Fourth went to Keith Feller over Matt Wilson’s fifth.

The Street Stock feature also had a rough time getting started as the caution flew twice before a lap got scored.  After that the race went unstopped.  Cary Brown jumped out front with second heat winner, Mitch Schmitz chasing him.  On lap three Joe Bonney moved around Schmitz and set his sights on Brown.  At lap six Bonney got by Brown and went on for his first trip to victory lane of the year.  Brown held on for second with Schmitz holding on for third.  Kevin Brame was fourth with first heat winner, Dan Mohr taking fifth.

The Gade Racing Engines/Shirts ‘n’ Stuff Pro Modified feature went with only two cautions around the mid race point.  Heat winner, Jake Bowman took the early lead and was soon holding off the challenges of Bob Dominacki.  On the last restart,at lap ten, Ray Cox Jr got by Dominacki and then using the high side took over the lead on lap thirteen.  Dominacki held on for second.  On the white flag lap last place starter, Doug Crampton moved in to take third.  Bowman held on for fourth with Bart Miller fifth.

Outside front row starter, Buck Harmening grababaed the early lead of the caution free B & D Pit Stop Late Model feature with first heat winner, Dustin Edwards taking over on lap three.  Four laps later Ryan Duhme went to the point with Terry Neal in tow.  Duhme wasn’t to be denied as he held off the challenges of Neal to go on for his first win this year.  Neal was second with Ray Guss Jr. taking third.  Cory Goldbeck was a strong fourth with Edwards holding on for fifth.  Bryan Klein won the other heat.
