Buesling Becomes First LM Repeat Winner
by  Mike McGuire

DAVENPORT, IA. (July 16, 2010)  - In addition to a great night of dirt track stock car racing action, the fans were given a chance drop their favorite drivers in a dunk tank for a good cause. The Davenport Speedway Kid’s Club was sponsoring the dunk tank, with proceeds going to Karsyn’s Krusaders.

The streak of different feature winners in the Peterson Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Models is over. Nate Buesling became the first Late Model driver to repeat a visit to victory lane in 2010. His other win came June 11th.

The 25-lap Late Model main started with Jeff Stevens leading lap one. Mike Zemo Jr., led laps two through nine. On lap ten, Kevin Blum went to the front. A couple of cautions and restarts later, Buesling put his racecar out in front. Blum would battle back on the high side to regain the lead, only to lose it to Buesling again. With only a couple laps left, Blum went to the bottom in turns three and four under Buesling, but ended up in the infield.

Buesling drove on to the win. Ray Guss Jr., finished second. Matt Ryan made a late race charge for third, followed by Mike Garland and Andy Eckrich.

Bob Dominacki lived up to his nickname “the Dominator”, leading 18 of the 20 laps in the Goacher Towing Pro Mod main. Brian Bushong led lap one after starting on the pole and Chuck Hanna led lap two. The rest was all Bob. At the checkers Dominacki held a sizeable lead over second place Thad Wilson. John Bull took third, with Hanna fourth and Doug Crampton fifth.

Matt Werner became the first driver to win five features at Davenport this season. Scott Griffin grabbed the early lead of the Koehler Electric Street Stock feature. Werner was able to get the lead during a series of restarts on laps four through six. Once in the lead, Werner went unchallenged, winning by a full straightaway over second place Cary Brown. Griffin held on for third, with Bruce Fosdyck Jr., fourth and Bryan Ritter fifth.

Jerry Pratt picked up his fourth feature win of the year at Davenport in the EMS IMCA Modified class. Pratt started sixth and passed Todd Dykema for the lead on lap four. Pratt would lead the remainder of the way despite having five caution flags over the next seven laps. Andrew Burk had a solid run to finish second, while Dykema regrouped after being one of the cautions to finish third. Joe Jones Jr., and Hunter Wilson were fourth and fifth respectively.

Luke Thurness made it three wins in a row in the 4 Stock division. Chris James grabbed the lead on the first lap of the feature and by lap three, already had Thurness on his tail. The two leaders would battle side by side and bumper to bumper until lap eight, when Thurness took the lead for good. James would finish in the runner-up spot with Justin Veloz third. Kevin Haury and Rich Phillips rounding out the top five.

Next Friday, July 23rd, will be Kile Motorsports night at the Davenport Speedway. The Kid’s Club special guest will be Monkey Joe.
