Ellithorpe, Sorgenfrey, Cox, Pratt, Dominacki and Neal Win Jackson County Fair Races

by: Ed Potter

MAQUOKETA, IOWA (July 30) - One hundred and twenty-two cars jammed into the pit area Thursday at Jackson County Speedway for the running of the Jackson County Fair races. In front of a packed grandstand Jake Ellithorpe started on the outside front row of the single caution 4-Stock feature and made it pay as he led flag to flag for the victory. Tyler Kelly chased him the entire way, even got beside him a couple of times, but had to settle for second. John Flury was third with Scott Booth fourth and Jeremy Campbell fifth.

CAMERON SORGENFREY

The Hobby Stock feature had only two cautions with Shawn Flagel grabbing the early lead. Cameron Sorgenfrey moved out front on lap three bringing Sheldon Hunter with him. On lap five Nate Yoerger went into second and was soon putting the pressure on Sorgenfrey. Sorgenfrey took the win with Yoerger second. Tenth place starter, Kile Vohringer was third with Nate’s dad, Bruce Yoerger fourth. Hunter held on for fifth.

RAY COX JR (Birthday Boy )

Things got a little rougher when the IMCA Modified cars took to the speedway as the caution flew five times in the first six laps. The fifth and last was for Matt Irwin as he rolled his car off between turns three and four. Matt was OK. Ben Traver led the first lap with Ray Cox Jr taking over on the restart on lap two. Cox went on for the win with Traver second. In a battle of the twenty-one’s Dan Klatt took third in his 21K. Kelly Meyer was fourth in his car 21A over Cory Bauer’s fifth.

SCOTT PRATT

Scotty Pratt took the lead of the four caution in the first four laps, Street Stock feature and was soon holding off Joe Bonney. On the fourth lap restart Bonney went out front with Pratt coming back on lap seven. Bonney edged back out front on lap nine weith Pratt taking over on ten. Pratt took the win with Dan Mohr a close second. Mitch Schmitz was third with seventeenth place starter, Justin Speers fourth. Scott Griffin rounded out the top five. With three laps to go Bonney was edged off the track and didn’t finish.

BOB DOMINACKI

Pole sitter, Bob Dominacki snatched the lead of the Gade Racing Engines/Shirts ‘n’ Stuff Pro Modified feature. The caution once again flew four times in the first four laps with one of them for Scott Fridley as he rolled off turn four while running in third. Scott was also uninjured. After the first four laps the caution didn’t come out again for the rest of the race. Dominacki led flag to flag to win, but it was no give-away as Brad Dierks kept him on his toes the entire race. Dierks got up beside Dominacki often but had to settle for second. Milo Veloz Jr came from tenth to take third with Dan Chapman fourth. Twelfth place starter, Doug Crampton was fifth.

TERRY NEAL

Terry Neal took the lead of the B & D Pit Stop IMCA Late Model feature on the drop of the green with Kevin Blum right on his heels. Nobody was going to catch Neal on this night as he led flag to flag to take the win. Blum took second with Ray Guss Jr third and Ryan Duhme fourth.
