Two-time winners Noteboom, Murray head Fast Shafts All-Star field

BOONE, Iowa (Aug. 6) – A pair of two-time race winners head the expanded field of 12 drivers elected to start the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational.

Jay Noteboom of Hinton and David Murray Jr. of Oberlin, Kan., will both look for their third All-Star victory on Friday night, Sept. 10 at Boone Speedway, during the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals.

They’ll be joined by Todd Dart of Algoma, Wis., making his career second All-Star appearance, and first-time starters Matt and Will Brack of Mead, Colo., Keith White of Little River Academy, Texas, Kevin Sustaire of Emory, Texas, Dave Hardesty of Minneapolis, Kan., Chad Wernette of Sheridan, Mich., Mike Smith of Arkport, N.Y., Paul Stone of Winton, Calif., and Brad Pounds of Bakersfield, Calif.

Two drivers were elected from each of the five ButlerBuilt Modified regions, in electronic balloting conducted through the IMCA website from June 1 through the end of July.

The more than 70 All-Star candidates included 2009 regional and state champions, and the winners of weekly races, specials and series events paying $1,000 or more held from June of 2009 through May of 2010.

While Colorado tracks are in the Western or Central regions, all candidates from that state were inadvertently put on the ballot as being from the West, leaving that region without All-Star representation when the votes were tallied. Stone and Pounds were the top vote recipients from the Western Region.

“Expanding the field to 12 cars this year is the right thing to do,” IMCA Vice President of Operations Brett Root said. “If anything, it promises to make this an even better race.”

Noteboom has been elected to start the race the last five years, winning in 2005 and 2008. He set the gold standard by topping seven qualifying events, most notably the Harris Auto Racing Race of Champions, this time around.

Three times an All-Star and winner of the 2004 and 2007 races, Murray topped a quartet of qualifying events, among them the Flatlander at Sherman County Speedway and RPM Speedway’s Fall Nationals.

Four years removed from his first All-Star outing, Dart took the checkers at Thunderhill Raceway’s Nathan Bouche Memorial.

The top vote getter overall, White was a regional and state champion, as well as winner of the Showdown special at Kennedale Speedway Park. Sustaire’s resume included the win at Abilene Speedway’s Ryan Bard Memorial Southern Challenge.

Smith paced  Five Mile Point Speedway’s inaugural Little Mike’s Race To Win.

Will Brack was a winner during the Big Dog Chassis Dakota Classic Tour and at Eagle Raceway’s Ice Breaker Challenge. His brother Matt took top honors at Beatrice Speedway’s October Fest and also in Larry Shaw Racing Blood, Sweat and Tears Series action.

Hardesty and Wernette were state champions, in Kansas and Michigan, respectively.

Stone won the Western Region Nationals at Ocean Speedway and a Winter Challenge Series feature at Canyon Speedway Park. Pounds topped the Five Star Grafix Clash at Santa Maria Speedway.

The All-Star race pays $1,000 to win plus lap money for each of the 10 circuits. The winner becomes a candidate for the 2011 Invitational.

Super Nationals runs from Sept. 6-11.
