Boone Speedway saw racing action on the track and also on the grandstand side on Saturday night

BOONE, IOWA (August, 7) - The Boone Speedway saw racing action on the track and also on the grandstand side on Saturday night.  It was the annual cardboard car races as kids and drivers alike made a dash to the checkers in their homemade race cars, all to the delight of the crowd.  Josh May showed he is fast on his feet as well as in his Mod Lite, when he took the checkers in his cardboard ride. 

In the Dwarf/Mod Lite feature, Charlie Brown made it to the checkers first,  Point leader, Josh May extended his lead in taking second place as Joel Huggins followed him to grab third.  Fourth was Tim Hennigar and fifth went to Bryan Zehm, The IMCA Northern SportMods was the battle between leader Jason Purvis and point leader Scott Davis.   Purvis had his chances for a win slip away, when he spun, handing the number one spot over to Davis.  While Davis pulled away, Cory Rose out dueled Bill Wears as they finished second and third respectively.  Fourth would go to Lynn Brockett who out distanced by Randy Roberts in a beaten and battered car from incidents on the track. 

Up next was the IMCA Modified feature.  Joel Bushore led the troops the first part of the 20-lap event but it was Jimmy Gustin who would take the checkers first tonight.  Gustin fought his way to the front from starting 10th and Jake Durbin followed him through the pack to take the runner up spot.  Bushore was a close third, fourth went to Kelly Lyons and Russ Dickerson rounded out the top five positions. 

There were thirty IMCA Stock Cars checked into the pits, calling for a B main to complete the twenty-four car starting feature. Andy Bryant claimed that consy race.  It was looking to be an easy win for two-time Super Nationals winner Brian Irvine until a sudden exit from the track with only two laps to go, put Mason City driver, Travis Shipman in control.  Shipman would then sail home to the win followed by Robert Stofer in second, Jerry Gifford in third, Jeff Harkrider in fourth and fifth was Ryan Leeman. 

Two IMCA Hobby Stock features closed out the evening.  In the first feature, Chris Hupp took the win and Cody Gustoff was scored in second.  Third  was Matt McDonald followed by Jesse Hopkins in fourth, and Tim Barber in fifth. 

The final checkered flag fell to Justin Maschke who over came a late race bobble that allowed second place finisher, Tyler Pickett to creep ever so close. Michael Murphy finished in third, fourth went to Donnie Gustoff and fifth was Travis Fenton.

Join us next Saturday night at the Boone Speedway for another great night of racing action in all divisions.  Bring the youngsters out and let them join in the candy toss as well.
