Season Champs Crowned at Jackson County Speedway
By: Ed Potter

MAQUOKETA, IOWA (August 28, 2010) - Prior to Saturday Season Championship races at Jackson County Speedway a fund raiser was held for Racing to a Cure For ALS, Lou Gehrig’s Desease.  Carrie and the race nights sponsor, S. C. Oberbreckling Excavating and Construction would like to thank everyone for their involvement and support.  Things were a little different for the nights feature racing as the point leaders started up front for a change.  Jeremy Campbell took immediate advantage of this as he jumped out front of the caution free 4-Stock feature.  At lap four Jacob Ellithorpe got by and went on to win the race.  Campbell’s second place finish was good enough to give him the point title for the season.  Jake Montoya was third with Lane Vohringer fourth and Brandon Jewell fifth.

Third place Hobby Stock feature starter, ,Sheldon Hunter took the lead on the drop of the green in one of the tight point battles of the night.  Jsustin Yarolem was putting the pressure on Hunter right away and on lap eight of this twelve lapper, Yarolem edged out front and then went on for the victory.  Hunter held on for second with Kile Vohringer taking third.  Nate Yoerger came from ninth to take fourth with Mike McGarry fifth.  Going into the  night Vohringer had a slight two point lead in the points race, but with his heat finish and feature win Yarolem also took the point battle by two points.

Pole sitter, Dan Klatt took the lead of the IMCA Modified feature and never looked back as he led flag to flag for the win and the point title, despite three cautions keeping the field tightened up.  Around the mid-race point a battle developed for second between Keith Feller and tenth place sarter, Mark Schulte.  Schulte ended up taking the spot with Feller third.  Ben Traver was fourth with Marty Scheckel fifth.

The Street Stock feature didn’t go quite as smooth as the prior races had as the caution flew six times in the first four laps.  Dan Mohr led the first four laps, but was then forced to retire due to mechanical woes.  On the restart it wa Kevin Brame out front holding off the challenges of Joe Bonney.  With three laps to go Bonney edged by and went on for the victory over Brame.  Eleventh place starter, Andrew Burk was third with Emily Gade fourth and Kerry Dake fifth.  Despite his twelfth place finish Mohr still took the point title.

Jake Bowman grabbed the lead of the non-stop, caution free Gade Racing Engines/Shirts’n’Stuff Pro Modified feature and never looked back s he led flag to flag for the win.  Ray Cox Jr took second.  Tenth place starter, Milo Veloz Jr took third after taking advantage of some lap traffic with Bob Dominacki fourth and Timmy Current fith.  Despite having to use a borrowed race car and start last, Doug Crampton’s sixth place finish was enough to insure him of the point title.

The B & D Pit Stop IMCA Late Model feature also went flag to flag without a caution and Ray Guss Jr snatched the lead on the drop of the green.  Terry Neal chased Guss for the first lap, but unfortunately for Neal he was then forced to watch the race from the infield due to mechanical problems.  Not immediately aware of Neal’s problems Guss wasn’t slowing down for anything.  By lap seven Guss started lapping cars, and by the end of the race he had lapped every car up to third place.  Guss’s Victory also gave him the point title for the year.  Ryan Duhme was a strong second with Dustin Edwards coming from ninth to take third.  Don Pataska was fourth with Late Model rookie, Kirk Caes fifth.  Ironically the first year Jackson County Speedway raced the IMCA Late Models it was Ray’s car owner, Hershel Roberts who won the point title.  Don’t forget the Eve of Destruction trailer races and Cheaters Night this coming Saturday.
