DAVENPORT, Ia. (October 2, 2010) – Under beautiful, but chilly weather conditions, the 7th Annual Spooktacular was held at the Davenport Speedway. The event was the final race of the 2010 season at the Davenport track. One hundred forty-eight racecars filled the pit area for the race. Brannon Bechen became the first 4 Stock driver to win back-to-back Spooktacular features. Bechen started the 50-lap main in the fifth position and took the lead from Chris Holmlund after a restart on lap eight. Bechen would lead the remaining laps despite coming under attack several times during the race. Jake Ellithrope hung around the top five the entire race and posted a second place finish. Brad Chandler finished third and was the last car on the lead lap. Joe Zrostlik made a valiant effort to get his lap back on the racetrack but would finish fourth, with Mike Wisdom fifth. The Street Stock feature was also a fifty lap, $1,000 to win affair. RJ Gonzales jumped out to the early lead and held the top spot until lap six, when Nathan Hall went around him on the outside. Lap eight saw Timmy Current use the bottom groove to grab the lead. Gonzales went back to the front on lap sixteen. Current took back the lead on lap twenty and would stay on top the rest of the way to the checkers. Gonzales made it close in the waning laps but would settle for second. Jeremy Marquette ran a solid race for a third place finish, followed by Hall in fourth and Dan Mohr fifth. John Bull dominated the Pro Mod class, easily taking the twenty lap feature win. Once in the lead, Bull was untouchable in the green, white, checkered race. Shaune Lewis put on a strong second place finish, followed by Bob Dominacki, Tony VonDresky, and Milo Veloz Jr., in that order. The IMCA/B-Mod feature also went caution-free. Ryan Dolan led the entire race in taking the win. Jerry Pratt came from well back in the field, to finish second. Joe Beal finished third ahead of Ray Cox Jr. and Craig Crawford. The Mod Lites put on a good show in their feature. Rob Guss and Joel Huggins were running one and two early in the race, until they made contact which sent Guss spinning. That brought out the caution, sending both to the rear of the field. Tom Schnabel, Mike Morrill, and Dusty Masolini each took turns at the front. When Morrill retired with overheating problems, Masolini went to the front for good and took home the checkers. Schnabel took second with Matt Werner third, Anthony Guss fourth, and Shon Sanders fifth. Joe Grant topped the Hobby Stocks, winning both the heat and feature races. Bruce Yoeger made a late charge to take second with Josh Neal third, Chad Paup fourth, and Gene Ehlers fifth. The Davenport Speedway Kid’s Club completed its first year with a costume parade for the kids during intermission and an early session of ‘Trick-or –Treat’ in the pit area, after the races. DRT TRAK Racing Inc. would like to thank the fans, racers, and sponsors who participated in racing events at the Davenport Speedway and Jackson County Speedway in 2010. We look forward to seeing you all again for another exciting racing season in 2011.
