WEST LIBERTY, Iowa (July 6) – Even after getting his first Deery Brothers Summer Series victory in two years and tightening the 2011 IMCA Late Model tour point standings, Terry Neal was a tough sell on the subject of momentum. “The competition is so tough any more. It’s hard to get a win,” said Neal, who topped last Sunday’s feature at Quincy Raceway and goes into the July 7 show at West Liberty Raceway three points behind leader Andy Eckrich. “If you’re off just a little bit with your setup, you’re not going to win in this series.” The 2005 Deery champion, Neal’s win at Quincy was his career 19th. He raced bombers and street stocks with some success “back in the day” at West Liberty before trying his hand in an open late model and getting mixed results on the ½-mile dirt oval. “I think starting position and having a good car are more important,” Neal said, referencing the earlier question about momentum. “Luck can mean a lot, too.” The West Liberty show is the ninth of 18 dates on the silver anniversary Deery Series schedule and will pay $2,000 to win and a minimum of $250 to start. Pit gates will open at 5 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. Hot laps are at 6:30 p.m. with racing to follow. Grandstand admission is $16 for adults, $13 for seniors 62 and over, $10 for students and kids 12 and under get in free when accompanying a paid adult. Pit passes are $25. IMCA Mach-1 Sport Compacts and local modifieds are also on the program. More information is available from promoter Keith Simmons at 563 744-3620, and on the track website, www.simmonspromotionsinc.com. Deery regular Charlie McKenna will have his grill car on hand for the second Karsyn’s Krusaders Kickin’ Cancer’s Butt One Lap At A Time ‘Partnering For A Purpose’ cookout, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday at Deery Brothers Ford Lincoln in Iowa City. Fareway provides the complimentary pork loins, hot dogs, potato chips and bottled water.
