New Jackson County Speedway promoters add Karl Chevrolet
Northern SportMods next season
MAQUOKETA, Iowa (Dec. 16) – Two regulars on the track at Jackson County
Speedway will be in charge of Saturday night race programs in Maquoketa
starting in 2012.
Tim Current and Ryan Duhme, partners in Darkside Promotions, take over the
helm at the ¼-mile dirt oval. Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods join IMCA
Modifieds and IMCA Late Models on weekly cards beginning with opening night
April 21 through Aug. 25.
“Ryan and I have both been racing for years,” Current said. “Promoting has
been on the back of our minds and when this opportunity came up, we decided
to trade our helmets in.”
Current competed in the street stock class this season, Duhme in a
sanctioned Late Model.
“We’re looking forward to getting the season started and to working with
IMCA,” Current said.
“We would like to get a JR Motorsports Hawkeye Dirt Tour Modified show
scheduled next year and bring the Deery Brothers Summer Series back further
down the road.”
They view the Northern SportMods as a complement to both Late Models and
Modifieds, which have been sanctioned at Maquoketa since 2001 and 2009,
respectively.
“We’ve seen how the division has been successful at other tracks in the
area. We need an entry level class like this, and the SportMods are also
good for guys who want to race but can’t afford to be competitive in a
Modified,” said Current.
“For a lot of drivers, SportMods are a good stepping stone to a Modified and
then a Late Model,” he added.. “I’ve been bragging them up since the word
go, I’ve gotten a ton of feedback on the class and it’s all been great.
There are already some guys building cars to race with us.”
No major improvement projects are planned at the facility in 2012. More dirt
will be added to the racing surface after the season ends.
Current and Duhme have purchased maintenance equipment, including tractors,
discs and a rotary hoe, and any track work deemed necessary during the race
program will be done during intermission.
