IOWA SPEEDWAY'S INAUGURAL NASCAR NATIONWIDE RACE NOMINATED
FOR 'EVENT OF THE YEAR'
NEWTON, IOWA (February 3) - The inaugural NASCAR Nationwide Series race at
Iowa Speedway last August 1st is one of only five nominees to be recognized
by the first annual Central Iowa Sports Awards for the honor of "Event of
the Year", and race fans are encouraged to participate by voting online at
the official Awards website, www.DesMoinesSports.com.
The Des Moines Area Sports Commission (DMASC), an organization under the
Greater Des Moines Convention and Visitors Bureau (GDMCVB) umbrella,
recently announced all nominees for the Awards, which recognize those who
have pursued athletic excellence with honor in 2009. Nominated activities
must have occurred within a 75-mile radius of home plate at Principal Park,
and occurred during the 2009 calendar year.
"On behalf of the track, NASCAR, and Nationwide Insurance, we are truly
honored to be included as a nominee for 'Event of the Year'," said Iowa
Speedway President and CFO, Jerry Jauron. "Our inaugural Nationwide Series
race was a huge success, not only for Iowa Speedway and our partners, but
for all of Central Iowa, and I deeply appreciate the Des Moines Area Sports
Commission for recognizing our event in this manner."
Online voting of nominees will take place now through February 4, 2010, with
complete official rules available on the Awards website shown above. The
Central Iowa Sports Awards ceremony will be held on Sunday, February 21st in
the Meadows Ballroom at Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino in Altoona.
Tickets to the awards ceremony are available online for $85 each, or a table
of ten for $750.
