Race Season Heats Up At Lakeside Speedway
"Shields Gains 1st Win, Claxton Doubles Up and John Allen Stays Hot "
Kansas City, KS (April 21, 2006) - The racing action is hot and heavy
at Lakeside Speedway. Even though it's
early in the season, drivers are working to put their programs up front. Three
drivers put an exclamation on their seasons Friday night, Tim Shields, Gene
Claxton and Johnny Allen.
Johnny Allen has had some tough luck in the past at Lakeside Speedway. Friday
night he put those gremlins to rest as he went on to win the Modified A Main.
It was a race, that once again, looked to be dominated by one car early. Bubba
Harvey went to the early lead and held a sizeable lead, until a yellow came
out on the speedway.
On the restart Allen took advantage of a great restart and was able to move
past Harvey for the lead. A couple of other drivers, Justin Boney and Kerry
Davis, also made their way to the front.
Davis went to the high side and was able to pass quite a few cars. It would
land him in second spot just past the halfway point. Boney would follow Davis'
lead and go to the high side as well. Throughout the race Boney, Davis and
Harvey would all swap spots one lap after another.
The driver of the night was Allen. The former, NCRA Modified Champion, has
been competing at Lakeside for the past few years and hungers for a regional
and national championship on the Dodge Weekly Series. A win tonight coupled with
some strong finishes in the past few weeks has Allen in the top 5 points. This
should give him a boost of confidence in the early part of the season.
Modified A
1. Johnny Allen
2. Justin Boney
3. Kerry Davis
4. Bubba Harvey
5. Scott Crystal
It can be said time after time again, Gene Claxton is a machine. A winning
machine.
Claxton put another notch in the win column on Friday night. Claxton, the
point leader in the Grand National division, put up his 2nd win on the year.
Claxton went to the lead on lap 9 and was not challenged the rest of the way.
Last week's winner, Nic Bidinger, put on a show from the 19th starting spot. Bad
luck in the heat race caused a poor finishing spot and an even worse starting
spot for the A Main.
As a competitor, Bidinger, worked through the traffic and one-by-one picked off
racers until the finish, where he finished 2nd.
Rookie, Travis Tenpenny came home with his best finish of the year, 4th and
Keith Cobb Jr. rounded out the top 5.
Allan Lawrence appeared to finish the feature in 3rd spot, but unfortunately he
took an extra parade lap. Lakeside Speedway does not allow this and therefore he
was sent to the end of the longest line of cars on the lead lap. Tenpenny and
Cobb would be moved up in the lineup to 3rd and 4th.
Grand National A
1. Gene Claxton
2. Nic Bidinger
3. Travis Tenpenny
4. Keith Cobb Jr.
In the first week of racing in the Factory Stock division, Tim Shields saw a
strong run and win nullified for being to light in the post race tech
inspection. Friday night he put that one to rest once and for all.
Shields was legal when it was all said and done Friday night. He won in
impressive and exciting fashion. On the last lap, Shields stuck his car to the
bottom of turn one and held a slight advantage leaving turn two. Racing down the
back stretch he put some more distance between himself and 2nd place, Robert
Brown. As a famous driver, Dale Earnhardt, once said, "...it's only the last lap
that's important."
Leading the last lap is exactly what Shields did. He would beat Brown to the
line and solidified the win by passing the post race tech inspection.
Robert Brown put up a valiant effort leading more than half of the race. Brown
came home with a respectable 2nd place finish.
Rounding out the top 5 was last week's winner, Buzz Kaster, Terry Schmidt and
Darrin Christy.
Factory A
1. Tim Shields
2. Rovbert Brown
3. Buzz Kaster

It was another great night of racing at Lakeside Speedway. Look for more of this
hot and heavy action next week too.
