Selden drivers bag wins at Oberlin
By Mike Hughes
OBERLIN, KS (July 22, 2006) - Racing action returned to Oberlin (KS) Speedway
Saturday evening, July 22, with the six regular divisions in action. With the
caution flag waving only 3 times during the evening, the entire program was
completed in just 2 hours.
Selden’s Nate Schaben continued his hot streak. After winning last weekend at
both Norton and Wakeeney, Schaben’s winning streak went to 3 as he led all 15
laps of the IMCA Modified feature. The lone caution flag came on lap 2 when
David Murray lost a driveshaft on the front straightaway. Schaben led the field
back to green and pulled away for the win, his first at Oberlin. Heat one winner
Mitch Kline kept Schaben in sight but could not get close enough to challenge
for the lead and had to settle for second. Jason Schoenberger, Marty Clark and
John Fose completed the top five. Schaben won the other heat race.
Jason Rogers, also of Selden, became the first repeat winner in the IMCA Stock
Car division. Rogers led from green to checkered in the 20-lap caution free
feature. The top five stayed close but Rogers was up to the challenge. Tyler
Hahn finished second, followed by Caleb Peters, heat one winner Josh Hudson, and
Cory Struckhoff. Jason Schoenberger was victorious in the other heat race.
Justin Wagner of Culbertson, NE, took the lead at the halfway mark of the 12-lap
IMCA Hobby Stock feature and won his second feature in as many nights, as he
also won the night before at McCook, NE. Wagner, who also won the second heat
race, picked up his second Oberlin Speedway feature win. Heat one winner Brian
Conness finished in the runner-up spot, followed by Dustin McClurg, Jerry Hudson
and Kelly Karnopp.
Max Pollmann of Trenton, NE, took the lead from John Werner on lap 2 of the
Classic Modified feature and held on to win his second main event at the
3/8-mile oval this season. Larry Pollmann finished second and Werner third. Karl
Wickizer won the heat race.
Hometown driver Cindy Murray won the Mini Truck heat race, then came back to
score her second feature win of the year after passing early leader Royal Fisher
on lap 3 of the 8-lap event. Fisher finished second, followed by Dale Heyen
John Annon & Josh Wonderly of Norton won their second Cruiser feature of the
year at Oberlin. After winning the heat race, Annon & Wonderly led all 8 laps of
the main event to make their way to victory lane. Chuck Eagleburger & Jason
Davis finished second, followed by Norman Wiechman & Milo Lippelmann.
Racing returns to Oberlin Speedway for the Decatur County Fair on Sunday
evening, August 13. There will be added purse money for all six divisions. Race
time will be 6:30 p.m.
