Lakeside Prepares For Tom Karrick Modified Memorial
WYANDOTTE, KS (Aug. 24, 2006) - For exactly one year Modified driver, Mike Ryun,
can boast that he won the '05 Tom Karrick Modified Memorial. Not only was it
Ryun's 1st Modified win at Lakeside, but it was for an event that has become a
staple of Lakeside Speedway's schedule.
Tom Karrick was a very successful racer in the Midwest. Year to year, fans knew
that any time Karrick rolled into a track he would be considered a threat to
win.
Karrick was not only just a threat to win, but he was a driver that was well
respected by his peers and he was the patriarch of family that would be involved
in local racing to this day.
Friday night at Lakeside Speedway another Modified driver will put his name on
the list of drivers that have won this prestigious event. Eight drivers have
cemented their mark on this event. A couple of drivers have done this more than
once. Tim Karrick, Tom 's son, won the first 3 Karrick Memorial races. This
season Tim is the points leader at Lakeside and he has won his share of races
this season. Since Lakeside Speedway has returned to dirt, Karrick hasn't won
this event that holds special meaning to him and his family.
The Karrick family helps put on this race every year. They provide the extra pay
that the race produces every year. In 2006 the winner's share of the purse will
be $2,200, while just making the A Main will pay $325. Without the help of the
family this would be just another race at Lakeside Speedway.
As the season comes to wind down for 2006, look for more Modified drivers to
invade Lakeside Speedway. Another side note to watch this week is the National
Points race between John Allen and Tim Karrick! It's a dandy.
Joining the Modifieds Friday night will be the Grand Nationals and Factory
Stocks. In 2006 the competition in both of these classes have rose to new
heights. Race after race, new drivers are stepping up to take the their turn at
the top of the ranks.
Friday night's Tom Karrick Modified Memorial will get going with hot laps at
7:00 and the first green flag flies at 7:30. Ticket prices are $10 for adults, 8
- 14 $6 and kids 7 and under are free.
