Karrick Holds On To Thriller, Adds Another Big Race To Resume
by Larry Lowrey

KANSAS CITY, KS. (Sept. 15, 2006) - Tim Karrick came into the season with a plan. It was to win some of the big races that eluded him since Lakeside Speedway returned to dirt. One of the races on the list, 7th Annual McCarthy Auto Group Jayhawk Modified Classic. Not anymore.

Karrick looked strong on Friday night. He won the A main scramble that would place him on the pole for the main event on Saturday night.

Track conditions weren't something that Karrick would have asked for. Karrick likes a track that is tacky and heavy. Last night's track was dry slick. It didn't matter. Karrick hit the setup and his Skyrocket chassis would handle perfectly on the way to the win. Was getting the win really that easy?

As the previous races before this one, the action was fast and furious throughout the feature. John Allen and Karrick would put on a show for the last 4 laps of the race.

On lap 26, Allen caught up to Karrick and went to put a move on the high side. Karrick would catch a glimpse of Allen and they both knew it would be a dogfight.

The two drivers would alternate the lead back and forth. One driver would take a quick lead with the other fighting back to regain the top spot. The crowd went to their feet on the white flag lap.

On their way to the white flag, both drivers had contact heading into turn one. As they gathered it up and headed out of two they were side by side. Karrick put the Skyrocket chassis on the low side and raced past Allen to three.

Karrick, who started on the pole, drove through 3 and 4 at a torrid pace taking the checkered flag. The win was worth $5,000 to Karrick.

Jason Hughes came into Saturday night as the fan favorite. His performance on Friday night was great. He went from the C all the way to the A scramble. As the fans watched this hotshoe, everyone figured he was a shoe in for the title. Unfortunately for Hughes he wasn't able to get to Karrick or Allen to challenge for the lead or the win. Hughes would settle for 3rd place.

Making his return to Lakeside Speedway was Dustin Boney. Boney made the most of the return by racing his Bullet Chassis to 4th place in the main. Boney pulled up to Hughes a couple of times late in the race, but was unable to get a good enough run to go by him for the position. In the strong field of cars, 4th is still very respectible.

Terry Beckham would round out the top 5.

Dennis Elliott put on a hard charge in the A main. Elliott started 19th on the field and finished inside the top 10 at 9th spot.

The 7th Annual McCarthy Auto Group Jayhawk Modified Classic closed down as yet another great event. Each event to this point has produced a different winner each year. The money that Lakeside Speedway puts out is amazing, the event will continue to get bigger and bigger each year.

Lakeside Speedway will resume racing action Sept. 29 & 30th, with the Capitol Federal Savings Late Model Showdown and Modified Shootout. Ticket prices are Adult (reserved or GA) $20.00 in advance, $25.00 day of, Kids 8-14 (GA) $10.00 per night, children 7 & under free in GA. Make your plans today!
