Steve King Foundation 305 Sprint Car Results
HAY, KS. (Sept. 16, 2006) - Fans were treated to a great show Saturday night at
the Jetmore Motorplex during the Steve King Foundation Memorial race. Twenty-Two
305 Sprint Car teams made the trip to help the cause and raise money for the
Hometown Hero’s newly formed Foundation to help injured drivers and under
privileged children in the area.
Don Steiben had his 305 Sprint Car at the Ticket Booth where fans could grab a
pen and sign his racecar with messages to the King Family. Fans in attendance
were able to view the racecars up close and personal as many of the race teams
lined their cars up along the walkway from the ticket booth to the grandstands.
Racers and fans alike were able to enter into drawings for King Memorabilia as
well as items donated to the racetrack by Manufacturers and from the racing
community.
From the start of racing, the action was fast and furious, keeping the fans on
the edge of their seats. Members of the Jetmore Victory Sprint Series and those
of the United Rebel Sprint Series took to the track for a good cause.
Hilker Trucking sponsored the Cash Dash for the 305 Class with a $250 first
prize. From the start it was a barnburner with the lead being changed between
several drivers lap after lap until the “Kansas Tornado” Jon Johnson took it for
good.

The A main proved to be just as good, as fans once again were given a great
show. The start of the feature was quite a bit different for the drivers as
during the Heat Races the wind was blowing from the South making negotiating
turns 3 & 4 a bit on the tricky side. By the start of the A Main, Mother Nature
played a fickle trick on the drivers as a cold front moved through and the wind
shifted to the North making for some exciting moments as the wings now caught
the wind in turns 1 & 2. Early race leader John Blurton and Jon Johnson both
took turns being swept up and over the top of track loosing several positions
but battled back to regain their spots.
The scariest moment of the night occurred with 4 laps to go as the number 74
sprinter took a wild ride on the front stretch tumbling several times before
coming to rest in the infield at the flagstand. Driver Van Kuhn emerged from the
battered racecar a bit on the shaken side but was able to wave to the crowd on
hand he was all right, the same couldn’t be said for his ride.
The final four-lap shootout featured a great battle between JVSS regular Ray
Seeman and URSS Champion Jon Johnson for the win. Johnson tried everything in
his bag of tricks to get around Seeman, but in the end had to settle for a
second place finish. Smokey Fairbanks, Brooke Boyd and John Blurton who
recovered from a spin earlier in the race rounded out the top five.

In a fitting ending to the night Steve King’s girlfriend, Tristine Hamilton
suited up and jumped into Don Steiben’s Sprint Car and made about a dozen laps
around the 3/8’s mile Motorplex. She may not have set a track record, but she
wasn’t afraid to step on the gas either and did an impressive job of piloting
the car around the track.
The United Rebel Sprint Series would like to thank Brad Maxwell and the Staff at
the Jetmore Motorplex for the invitation to come share in fantastic night of
racing and at the same time raise some funds for the Steve King Foundation.
