Allen Wins Dogfight, Bidinger Blasts Grand National Field & Tim Shields Goes 2 for 2 at Lakeside Speedway

KANSAS CITY, KS. (May 19) - After more than a month, Lakeside Speedway roared to life with racing on Friday night. Mother Nature has put a hurting on the track over the past few weeks, but Friday night she gave the everyone exactly what they wanted. A nice breeze, no rain and great racing. Well, maybe the drivers took care of the great racing part!

Once again, the Modified Divison saw a new winner for 2007. John Allen had to work for every ounce of this win.

During the feature, Allen had gotten out to the early lead and look to be putting some distance on the cars behind him.

Kerry Davis and Gene Claxton would battle for several laps for that 2nd place spot. Davis would win that battle and set out for the leader, Allen.

Davis applied the pressure to Allen lap after lap. Just past the halfway mark, Davis got by Allen for the top spot, but this switch of spots was only temporary.

Allen would use a restart to get some momentum up and pass Davis for the lead. Davis had to check up on the pass and lost ground to the leader. Allen. Allen would never lose the lead again throughout the race.

Last year's champion, Tim Karrick, put on a show for the fans on Friday night. In his heat race, Karrick blew out a tire and had to compete in the B Main. A provisional might have been on the mind of Karrick, but he had other plans, like winning the B Main. Starting towards the rear of the field, Karrick started passing cars, one by one. By the time the checkered flag dropped he found himself just behind Allen in 2nd spot.

Davis would hold down 3rd, 4th place went to a hard running, Mark Schafman and Gene Claxton rounded out the top 5.

In the preview to '07 in the Grand National division, everything looked wide open. A new star would emerge as veterans had moved on to other venues. Nic Bidinger, just might be that star.

Bidinger has been running at Lakeside for a couple of years and his experience is starting to pay dividends. Friday night, he had to work through traffic to put himself in position to take the win. Dustin Gilbert led a majority of the main event, but found himself shy of the victory when Bidinger made his move on lap13.

Unfortunately for Gilbert, a mechanical problem would take him out of the race and ruin any chances he might have had a mounting a late race charge at the winner, Bidinger.

Jim Baker found himself finishing in the 2nd spot, Cody Owens raced his way to a 3rd place finish and Jimmy Winkler & Brad Dibben rounded out the top 5 respectively.

Getting one win at Lakeside Speedway in the Factory Stock class is tough enough. To get two wins in a row to start the season off is, Fantastic. Just ask Tim Shields.

Shields picked his way from the middle of the feature lineup to overhaul Will Whisler late in the race. Whisler, competing in 2nd season, found himself up front during the Factory Stock A Main.

Providing for some late race heroics, Shields, stalked Whisler as the laps wound down. Shields put some pressure on Whisler before the restart, but it didn't have any effect on the driver looking for his first Factory Stock Feature win.

When the white flag came out, Shields, new it was time to go. Whisler would bobble going through turns 1 and 2. This was the only advantage Shields would need as he sprinted off to the 2nd victory of the season.

Whisler had to settle for 2nd, Tyler Schmidt had a very strong run to finish 3rd, running in the 4th spot was Jake Newman and Joe Smith Jr. locked down the 5th spot.
