Karrick Shows The Way In Modifieds, Owens Becomes The 4th New
Winner In Grand National & Superman Continues To Roll In Factory Stock
KANSAS CITY, KS (June 8) - A beautiful night greeted the fans and racers at
Lakeside Speedway on Friday night and the racers took advantage of great
weather. Friday night was another awesome night of racing at Lakeside Speedway.
In the Modified division, Tim Karrick returned to championship form by gaining
his first feature win of 2007.
Karrick, a perennial favorite, worked his way to the front on lap 3. The
McCarthy Auto Group Skyrocket chassis was fast on any groove. He would lead 22
of the 25 laps in the A main, but it wasn't that easy.
Kerry Davis made a run on Karrick for most of the feature event, while John
Allen mounted runs at Davis. On lap 13, Davis went by Karrick as he bobbled
coming out of turn number 2. The pass was short-lived as the yellow flag was
thrown, moving Karrick back to the top spot for the restart. Once back to action
Karrick would stay out front.
The only drawback to Karrick's night, he thought that he might have lost his
motor on the last lap heading to the checkered flag.
Rounding out the top 5 was point leader, Allen, in 2nd spot. He edged out a hard
charging Davis by inches at the line for the position. Fourth went to Tom
Charles, who made a valiant effort towards the end of the feature to challenge
both Allen and Davis. Nick Newton, a rookie in the modified ranks, finished in
the 5th spot.
Cody Owens remembers a solid effort at Lakeside Speedway one year ago.
Owens had a great finish of 2nd spot in the feature racing the leader tough to
the end. Unfortunately for Owens he took an extra lap racing with the leader and
suffered a penalty putting him back of the longest line of lead lap cars.
Negating his strong finish for the youngster from Missouri. Owens can forget
about that now.
Last night in the Grand National A main event, Owens, looked stout as he walked
away with the win. Owens becomes the 4th different winner out of 4 races at
Lakeside Speedway this season.
Tim Billings was poised to get another victory at Lakeside Speedway, but he
broke on lap 2. Owens grabbed the lead at this point and hung on until the end.
Scotty Martin and Jimmy Winkler waged a great battle for 2nd. Winkler, racing
with a heavy heart over the loss of his mother, ran a masterful race. Winkler
used a variety of lines to pass Martin on lap 17 and gave a good effort to catch
Owens, but he ran out of time as the checkered flag dropped on the race.
Martin would finish 3rd, Marshall Jewett came in at 4th and Dave Powell rounded
out the top 5.
Four races up and four wins for Clark Kent.... oh, I mean Tim Shields.
Shields is in a class all by himself at the moment at Lakeside Speedway. At
times last night in the feature, he had a straightaway lead on the rest of the
competition. Winning his fourth straight feature in the Factory Stock class is
an impressive feat. A feat that has everyone wondering if he is driving with a
blue suit under his driving suit with a cape and a big red S on the chest.
Mike Taylor put up a strong race also. Taylor led for a majority of the feature,
but with Shields putting the heat on his back bumper it was only a matter of
time. On lap 8, just after a restart, Shields motored by on the high side and
sped off for the win.
Tyler Schmidt, put up a solid effort, finishing 2nd to Shields, Will Whisler
finished 3rd, 4th went to Mike Taylor and rounding out the top 5 was Brian
Mills.
With Mother Nature sparing everyone, all in all it was another great night of
racing at Lakeside Speedway. Next week fans get a double dose of racing with the
regular races being held next week on Friday night and then June 16, the World
Of Outlaw Late Models will make there first ever visit to Lakeside Speedway!
