Seeman Wins URSS Jetmore “305 Nationals”
by: Terry J Pfeifer
OBERLIN, KS (June 17) - Thirty Six 305 drivers from Kansas, Missouri,
Colorado, Nebraska and Oklahoma descended on the high banked 3/8’s mile oval at
The Jetmore Motorplex in Jetmore Ks. as the United Rebel Sprint Series hosted
the Second Annual Jetmore 305 Nationals. The beautifully prepared track made for
some great racing and had the fans on their feet for most of the 25 lap feature
as local favorite Ray Seeman took the win and the $1000 winners share.
Leading the field to the green was Kansas City’s Corey Lutters, with Kinsley’s
Kirby Hagans on the outside pole, jumping into the early lead and Ensign’s
Brandon Fischer and Dodge City’s Brian Herbert on his tail. Being the leader
would prove to be a jinx in the early going as Hagans looped his ride on Lap 3
to bring out the caution. On the restart, last years winner Brandon Fisher took
over the lead only to have something break and slow to a stop on lap 7.The
restart saw Herbert assume the lead closely followed by Utica’s Jon Johnson who
had quietly worked his way to the runner up with 8th place starter Ray Seeman
from Jetmore in 3rd followed by Dodge City’s Keefe Hemel and Lutters.
While Herbert and Johnson put on a torrid battle for the lead the 76J of Justin
Schwien, Smokey Fairbank and Hagans, who was fighting his way back from his
earlier spin, were in their own battle for the 6th position. Hagan’s finally
worked his way around Fairbanks and Schwien and wrestled the 5th spot from
Jetmore’s Don Stieben on lap 19 as Cody Salem had worked his way from the back
from an earlier spin and Dodge City’s Nick King overtook Fairbank for 8th and
9th.
Lap 21 saw the battle for the lead heat up and the move of the night as a rim
riding Seeman had the crowd going wild when he drove around both Johnson and
Herbert to take the lead coming off turn two and then held both off as they
battled through lapped traffic the last four laps to take his first URSS feature
victory of the season. A jubilant Seeman crawled from his car and quoted “Man, I
had to work for that one” as the fans were on their feet cheering their local
driver. Following Seeman across the line were Herbert, Johnson, Hemel and Hagans.
In post race inspection, Don Steibens refused to allow URSS Officials to tech
his car resulting in a disqualification from the race moving Schwien to 6th
followed by Salem, King, Fairbanks and Dodge City’s Tyler Knight charging from
his 21st starting position to round out the top ten and earning the Weld Wheels
“Hard Charger” award..
