RPM Speedway to host Steve King Foundation Night
HAYS, Kan. (Aug. 24, 2007) – RPM Speedway will host a Steve King Foundation
Night, Saturday, Sept. 1, at 7 p.m. The night will include the American Sprint
Car Series (ASCS) sprints plus IMCA Modifieds, Stocks, Hobby Stocks, Sport
Compacts and Mod-Lites providing racing action and entertainment for the entire
family. The Speedway is located on the Ellis County Fairgrounds.
“We are honored to be hosting a Steve King Foundation night at RPM,” said track
promoter Jay Fose. “Steve raced with many of the ASCS drivers that will be
racing here and we thought this was a fitting time to help raise additional
awareness for the foundation.”
The Steve King Foundation was established to help people who participate in dirt
track racing across the country by providing aid to race car drivers, pit crew
members, racing officials, track operations personnel or the immediate families
of those individuals who are injured or killed. The foundation will also
contribute to organizations and facilities dedicated to improving the safety of
the sport.
The foundation was established late last year after the untimely death of racing
veteran Steve King of Jetmore, Kan. King had run primarily in the National
Championship Racing Association (NCRA) and ASCS circuits. He died in August 2006
after injuries sustained at the Knoxville Nationals in Knoxville, Iowa. His
accomplished career, which started in 1989, included 17 NCRA Sprint Car feature
victories and 2 NCRA season championships.
Fose said fundraising events planned for the evening will include drivers’
walking through the stands with their helmets to take up a goodwill donation for
the foundation. There will also be a 50/50 event, with 50 percent of the funds
being donated to the foundation.
Steve King Foundation t-shirts, wristbands, Race Time coloring books and the CD
“Eighty Eight – A Tribute to Steve King ” by Ben Bolling as well as other
merchandise will be available for purchase during the race.
The Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. All donations are tax
deductible.
