City of Jetmore’s Steve King Memorial Sprint Classic Set For Motorplex

OBERLIN, KS (Mar 7) - The High banks of the Jetmore Motorplex will thunder to life with the familiar sounds of Sprint Cars and Modifieds as the 2008 Season opens on April 26th with the United Rebel Sprints and the Blood Sweat and Tears (BST) Modifieds on tap for the first race of the season in SW Kansas. Then on May 10th one of the States Biggest Sprint Car shows of the year will also be held at the Motorplex with the “City of Jetmore’s Steve King Memorial Sprint Car Classic”. The NCRA 360 Sprint Cars will once again grace the clay along with the URSS “Wingless” Sprints for a night of Midwestern Thunder on the Plains.

The City of Jetmore is sponsoring a full day’s festivities and the evening racing activities that will benefit the Steve King Foundation. The Foundation was started in Steve’s memory to provide assistance to race car drivers, pit crew members, racing officials and track operations personnel who are involved in dirt track racing and are seriously ill, severely injured or killed.

The entire day will be a celebration in the City of Jetmore with an afternoon full of activities planned in the City Square. Numerous fund raising events and activities will be held, including a golf tournament between the 360 and 305 racers along with a Hamburger Feed and many of the areas best Sprint Car Drivers will have their cars on display, giving the Fans a chance to meet them one on one to get a picture or an autograph. There is also a concert planned at the Motorplex before and after the races to complete a great fundraising event. Another highlight of the evening will be a very special Raffle and the winner will get to drive an actual ICM/King Racing 360 Sprint Car that night after the races are over. A $20.00 ticket will give a lucky fan the “Thrill of a Lifetime” as they pilot the race car around the track.

The contributions that Steve and the King family have made to the community over the years have been tremendous. The proceeds from a 50/50 Drawing at the evenings event will also benefit the King/Hodgeman County Community Fund which provides assistance to area students as Steve was a strong believer in the importance of education in life, whether in racing or life on the farm.

Also sponsoring the event will be Coors Light, ICM, Harry’s Machine Works, M.A.P. Inc, Lucas Glass, Myers Engine Service, Victory Electric, Stewart Plumbing & Heat, Dodge City Harley-Davidson, Dodge City Powersports, Bonzai Products, United Wireless, K & M Rentals, Hanston State Bank, Murphy Tractor & Equipment and The City of Jetmore for their support.
