Struckhoff, Dauer double up at Wakeeney By Mike Hughes WAKEENEY, KS (May 4)—Cory Struckhoff of Kensington and Marquette’s B.J. Dauer both won their second features of the season in their respective divisions at Wakeeney (KS) Speedway Sunday evening, May 4. Travis ‘The Terminator’ Sherfick jumped to the lead at the drop of the green of the 20-lap IMCA Stock Car feature but gave way to Josh Hudson on lap 7. But Hudson’s lead was short lived when his car broke on lap 9, ending his night. A caution at the halfway mark saw Sherfick leading Cory Struckhoff, Terry Cunningham, Adam Balthazor and Dan Lauer. Struckhoff finally made his move around Sherfick on lap 17 to take the top spot and held on at the finish for his second win of the season. Cunningham finished third, followed by Balthazor and Ryan Wark. Heat race winners were Struckhoff and Sherfick. The IMCA Hobby Stock feature saw Derrick Pfannenstiel lead the opening lap before heat two winner Ricky Runnion took command. The final caution flag waved just after the halfway mark of the 15-lap race. Runnion led the field back to green, trailed by B.J. Dauer, Kirk Karst and Joey Carter. Heat one winner Dauer made the winning pass on lap 11 and held off Runnion for the second time this season for the victory. Carter was third, followed by Jerry Hudson and Jake Hedlund. The IMCA Modified A-feature was a wild race all the way to the checkers. Barry Maupin led the first 10 laps of the 20-lap race before defending track champion Corey Lagroon took the lead. But Lagroon was passed on the following lap by Jerry Teel of Hays, then retook the lead two laps later. The final caution in the race waved on lap 18, setting up a close finish with the top five cars in a heated battle. Teel made a pass on Lagroon coming to the white flag and was able to hold on for the win. Lagroon finished second, followed by Mike Martin, Jeremy Zorn and Kyle Rohleder. Heat race winners included Clay Bontrager, Maupin, Ronnie Hill and Teel. ‘The Taz Man’ Tyler Hahn claimed victory in the B-feature. Norman Wiechman & Josh Rohrbough of Scott City led all 15 laps of the caution free Cruno feature. Alfred Emmons & Kenny Cain finished second, followed by Dalton Bauer. Wiechman & Rohrbough also won the heat race. Racing returns to Wakeeney Speedway for the annual 2-day Memorial
