Karrick, Bidinger and Taylor All Repeat Winners On Sports Nutz Night At The Races

KANSAS CITY, KS (July 26) - Sometimes things aren't what they appear to be. Friday night at Lakeside Speedway, fans were beginning to wonder if they were going to view a dust bowl instead of a race.

Facility Manager, Mike Knight, only dropped 1 load of water on the track just before hot laps. As the cars came out and hot lapped the dust began to fly and most track operators would be getting nervous by now.

"There is no reason to panic," said Knight, "If you go down and scrape the ground with your fingers, you are going to find moisture."

More than 2 inches of rain fell on Lakeside Speedway earlier in the morning and Knight and his crew knew just what to do. They prepped the track as they have done before and let the moisture do the work for them, as throughout the night the moisture came up through the tracks surface. A heavy track is what some drivers favor.

Tim Karrick is one of those drivers. Karrick added win number 35 to his resume on Friday night and just like a couple of weeks ago he did it in impressive fashion. After a yellow flag, Karrick took to the bottom of the speedway and took the lead on lap 10. From there he was gone.

Terry Bruner pulled out to the early lead, but he would give way to Kerry Davis. Davis, unfortunately, would go by the wayside due to a right front flat and some damage. Bruner took advantage and jumped back into the point position. Joe Walker, Danny Charles and Tom Charles were all in hot pursuit. Moving his way up from the 6th row was Karrick and he was coming on strong.

Positions behind Bruner were being swapped back and forth with regularity. Both of the Charles klan made it as high as 2nd on the speedway, Walker, would work his way back up to the front. The action was pleasing to the fans.

Once that Karrick took the lead, the battle would be for next 5 or 6 positions. Bruner held on to finish 2nd, Walker had another solid performance to back up his top 10 finish from a week ago, Danny Charles had one of his best finishes of the year in 4th and rounding out the top 5 was Dustin Boney.

In the Grand National feature, Nic Bidinger, once again claimed the top spot for the 8th time this season.

Over the past few weeks, Bidinger had been struggling with mechanical problems. They would force him out of heat races and put him to the back of the A main events. This week was just a little different.

Bidinger finally finished a heat race and this meant he would start up towards the front of the big race.

Once the green flag waved to start the race, Bidinger took the lead on lap number 7. Just like the Modified feature, Bidinger was gone. At times this year Bidinger has looked like one of the most dominant racers to ever sit in a Grand National. If you talked to many in attendance tonight, they would say that Bidinger was dominant on his way to his 8th feature win.

Former Factory Stock Champ, Tim Shields, had one of his best finishes of the season in the runner-up spot, Jimmy Winkler finished up in the 3rd spot after starting deep in the field, last week's winner, Paul Lanferman, finished 4th and Brad Dibben responded well with a top 5 finish after a mechanical failure last week.

If you are going to name a dominant driver in the Factory Stock division, you wouldn't have to look further than Michael Taylor.

Taylor notched his 5th win on the season. The most of anyone at Lakeside Speedway in the Factory Stock class.
Lap number 2 is where Taylor made his move and just like the other two winners on the night, he was not challenged once he got out in front of the field. The win also moved Taylor into 2nd spot in the points race. He trails Buz Kaster by just 15 points with 5 events left to race.

As always the Factory Stock class gave the fans something to cheer about. Several drivers took turns at working their way up to the front. Jason Ryun, Kelby Ostrander, Darrin Christy, Terry Schmidt, Buz Kaster and Tyler Schmidt were slicing and dicing as much as they could to advance their positions.

Ryun would finish 2nd, 3rd would go to Ostrander and in one of the closest finishes ever at the line, Tyler Schmidt held off Kaster by a matter of inches! Another great race all around for the Factory Stocks.

Action gets back underway at Lakeside Speedway next Friday night. Only 5 points races are left and don't for a second think the action won't be hot and heavy. Gates open at 5, hot laps are at 7 and the first race goes green at 7:30. Adult tickets are $10 and kids 8 - 14 are just $6.
