TESCH WIRES FIELD IN 4TH ANNUAL “HAVOC AT THE HUMMER” OPENER

HUMBOLDT, Kan. (March 14) – Jon Tesch made the long haul from Watertown, S.D., pay off to the tune of $2,000 as he wired the field in Saturday night's 40-lap main event as the USMTS Casey's General Stores National Tour invaded the Humboldt Speedway for the first night of the 4th Annual “Havoc at The Hummer.”

Despite 56 top-level teams packed into the pit area of Ron and Rhenda Whitworth's lightning-fast quarter-mile bullring, Tesch was up to the task. From his outside front row starting spot, Tesch snagged the lead at the drop of the green flag and never looked back.

Jason Hughes tops the Humboldt win list with four career USMTS victories here, but had to settle for the runner-up paycheck this time around.

A three-time winner at Humboldt, defending Bear Tire Mo-Kan Region champ Kelly Shryock started seventh in the main event and climbed to third, but was unable to find a way around Hughes. Chad Wheeler grabbed fourth at the finish line behind Shryock.

Dustin Boney, who led last weekend's season opener at the Junction Motor Speedway before retiring with a broken fan blade, raced from 19th on the 26-car starting grid to finish fifth and earn the PBM Performance Products Hard Charger Award.

AFCO Pole Award winner Scott Green finished sixth, 21st-starting Rodney Sanders was seventh, NASCAR veteran Ken Schrader took eighth and Gary Langworthy Jr. of nearby Coffeyville, Kan., grabbed a ninth-place finish.

Johnny Bone Jr. won the first USMTS race ever staged at the Humboldt Speedway on June 28, 2000, and the most recent race on Aug. 4 of last year. On Saturday night, he rounded out the top-10 finishers after starting 17th.

Tesch sits atop the Bear Tire Mo-Kan Region points after his win with a slight lead (104 to 98) over Boney, who raked in 14 passing points in the night's finale. Hughes is third with 96 points, followed by Shryock (95), Sanders (92), Wheeler (88), Green and Schrader (81), Bone (79) and Langworthy and Zack VanderBeek (74).

Day two of the 4th Annual “Havoc at The Hummer” doubleheader takes place on Sunday with gates opening at 12 noon, hot laps at 2:30 and racing at 3:00. NASCAR veterans Ken Schrader and Kenny Wallace will once again be on hand to battle the stars and cars of the USMTS Casey's General Stores National Tour.
The Humboldt Speedway is a 1/4-mile semi-banked clay oval located 0.1 mile west of US 169 (Humboldt Exit), then 0.5 mile south, then 0.9 mile east on Georgia Rd. B-Mods and Factory Stocks will also join the racing card. Raceday info is available by calling the track hotline at 620-473-3694 or visit www.humboldtspeedway.com online.
