Murray, Cunningham, Attwood,
Graham first night winners at Stockton
By Mike Hughes
STOCKTON, KS (August
11)—Close to 60 cars in four divisions checked in for racing action
Wednesday evening, August 11, at Rooks County Speedway in Stockton, KS.
Corey Lagroon took the
lead at the start of the 20-lap IMCA Modified feature and appeared to have
things well in hand until lap 10 when he went high in turn 2 and went off
the track. Lagroon kept moving, so the caution flag did not wave, but
Lagroon turned the lead over to Jerry Teel. The final caution waved on lap
11 for debris on the track from Jordan Grabouski’s race car. Teel led the
field back to green, with Tim Watts and Oberlin’s David Murray Jr. close
behind. Watts made his move past Teel on lap 14, but 2 laps later, heat two
winner Murray beat Watts in a drag race down the frontstraight to grab the
lead and hold on the final few laps for the win. Watts and Teel finished
second and third, while Lagroon recovered to finish fourth. Dylan Sherfick
rounded out the top five. Grabouski won the other heat race.
Wakeeney’s Terry
Cunningham led from green to checkered in the IMCA Stock Car 20-lap
feature. A couple of caution flags kept the field close but Cunningham was
able to hold off a hard charging Adam Balthazor, who chased Cunningham the
entire distance, for a trip to victory lane. Dustin McClurg was third,
followed by Pat Bedore and Keith Riley. Jay Hachmeister and Cunningham were
victorious in the two heat races.
Troy Attwood of Gaylord
led all 15 laps in the caution free IMCA Northern Sport Mod main event. The
last half of the race saw Tanner Portenier, Tyler Frye and Tyler Sutton in a
battle for the runner-up position, but the three would finish in that order,
with state point leader Mathew Crowell completing the top five. Heat race
winners were Crowell and Sutton.
G.W. ‘Cheeseburger’ Fuller
led the first half of the 15-lap IMCA Hobby Stock feature before heat two
winner Cody Graham of Hays took over the lead on lap 8. The lone caution
flew on lap 12 when Blaine Buchholz had problems in turn 4. Graham led the
field back to green and led the remaining distance to make his way to the
winner’s circle. Kelly Karnopp, Fuller, heat one victor Jerry Hudson, and
Jeromy Wagner finished second through fifth.
The final night of racing
at the Rooks County Fair will be Thursday, August 12, at 7:00 p.m. with the
same four divisions returning to action.
