Boen Lightning Fast at Thunder on the Hill!
MAYETTA, KS (October 8, 2010) - Kelly Boen flies from the tenth place
starting position to capture night one of Thunder on the Hill. Henderson
Colorado's, Boen was lightning fast from the start of the evening. The 07
Cornett powered Rockett is only two weeks old. The new car proved to be a
keeper, awarding Boen his 17th career win with the Lucas Oil MLRA. The Road
Runner Fabrication and Peterson Fluid Systems sponsored race car has been in
the Lucas Oil MLRA Victory Lane 5 times in the 2010 season.
Terry Phillips would battle with Al Purkey for the top spot through the
first few laps of the Lucas Cattle Company A Feature. Phillips would lead
Purkey into turn one on lap two. Points leader Brad Looney of Republic,
Missouri would battle with Boen early in the race for position. While Boen
and Looney fought for the third spot the 25 of Chad Simpson pulled away from
the two slightly. The 33 of Al Purkey would catch Phillips and run side by
side for the lead before a caution on lap 10. The 15 of Jason O'Brien would
make a quick pit stop and return to the track after bringing out the only
caution of the 25 lap feature. After the restart Phillips and Purkey would
remain out front with Boen closing in quickly. At lap 13 Boen would dive
down to the inside of turns 3 and 4 to take both Purkey and Phillips for
first. Boen continued to put track between the second place contenders until
the checkers flew.
Boen was followed by Chad Simpson and Terry Phillips. Simpson was able to
squeak by Purkey and Phillips to take home a second place finish. Purkey
edged out Brad Looney for the fourth spot in the finishing order, tying the
Lucas Oil MLRA 2010 Points leader for first. Both Looney and Purkey have new
cars. Looney took his 2010 Victory Circle M1 by Moyer for its first laps
around a track Friday in Mayetta. Purkey's new colors look sharp on the new
Shaw by Purkey that is only three races old. Jeremy Payne finished just in
front of 2nd place points contender Dave Eckrich. Eckrich remains just 22
points behind the tied leaders. Hermitage, Missouri's Eric Turner came home
in 8th with Alan Vaughn and Jack Sullivan making up the remainder of the top
ten.

Twenty-five of the Midwest's best super late model drivers made their way to
Thunder Hill Speedway in Mayetta for night one of Thunder on the Hill. With
nearly 150 total cars filling the pits the high-banked, 3/8 mile track and
beautiful weather, fans flowed in throughout the evening. The $2000 to win
25 lap A-Main event completed with just one caution. The Lucas Oil MLRA
truly appreciates the fans who were able to make it through the long evening
and into the wee hours of the morning for the feature event.
Saturday night will pay the Lucas Oil MLRA A-Main feature winner $3000.
Gates at Thunder Hill Speedway will open at 4 pm, with general admission
$15. Children ages 5-12 are just $10 with kids age 5 and under FREE. Pit

Heat winners included, Chad Simpson, Terry Phillips and Al Purkey.
In the first heat race Chad Simpson starts from the pole and leads the
entire 10 laps. Brad Looney challenges Simpson for the position early, then
follows the 25 Liebe Trucking race car to the checkers. Alan Vaughn looked
solid in the Pinnacle Career Institute sponsored Pro-powered, GRT. Vaughn
finished in the 3rd spot followed closely by Henderson, Colorado's, Kelly
Boen. Boen started last in the heat and worked his way around the field to
finish fourth. Evan Hubert of Cross Timbers, Missouri rounded out the top
five for heat number one.
Heat race number two rolled on the speedway with John Anderson starting on
the pole position. Anderson pulled double duty driving a modified to the
checkers in his heat early in the night. From the start Anderson was out
front, Al Purkey and Jeremy Payne would follow racing for the second
position. Bill Koons would spin his 29K bringing out a caution on lap four.
From the restart, Purkey was hot on the tail of Anderson. When the white
flag flew from the flag stand, Purkey jumped out to the high side of
Anderson and took the top spot. Anderson would battle back and end up too
high in turn four coming to the checkers. Purkey would win followed by
Jeremy Payne in the Andy's Frozen Custard, GRT by Phillips. Dave Eckrich,
currently third in the Lucas Oil MLRA Points Championship finished the heat
in third place, with John Anderson falling back to fourth. Last Friday
night's feature winner Eric Turner finished the heat race fifth.
The BSB Manufacturing heat race would be the third and final late model heat
of the night. Jack Sullivan would start on the pole with the 75 of Terry
Phillips in second. The two would dance around the track for half the heat
with Sullivan out front. Phillips would pass Sullivan for the lead and
finish in the first position. JD Hubert started on the last row for the heat
and finished in the third spot, earning him a row two starting position for
the A Main event. Justin Asplin followed Hubert finishing 4th with Omaha,
Nebraska's, Scott Koskovich in fifth.
