Dotson Goes Wire To Wire On Night 1 of Capital City Clash
Story By: Jr. Lowrey
TOPEKA, KS (October 6, 2011) - Forty seven modifieds checked in to do battle
on night number 1 of the Capital City Clash, but it was one that stood out
in particular, Mark Dotson.
Dotson (Cameron, Mo.) finished 2nd in the passing points after the 5 heat
races were contested early in the night. It guaranteed him an outside front
row starting spot.
Tim Karrick (Basehor) collected the most passing points in the heat races
and started on the pole position. In the past few years, Karrick has caught
fire in the late months of the racing season. It was just a few weeks back
when Karrick finished runner-up on HPT.Com Speedway's season finale.
The night would belong to Dotson. At the drop of the green flag Dotson took
a run deep into turn 1 on the high side. Exiting turn two he gathered enough
momentum to run him to the front of the field. From the front of the field
Dotson flexed his muscle as he ran away from the competition.
By the midway mark, Dotson was beginning to put several of his fellow
competitors a lap down. It was in this lapped traffic that Dotson would see
his advantage dwindle down. Dotson would score the easy win on night 1.
Karrick maintained the 2nd position throughout the feature. He parlayed his
early run on the night and his knowledge of the HPT surface to hang on to
2nd.
Chase Junghans (Manhattan) celebrated a strong run on the night driving to
the 3rd place finish, Eric Turner (Hermitage, Mo) worked his way through the
competition and passed Terry Schulz to finish 4th and Schulz would hang on
to round out the top 5.
Paul Snyder (Wellsville) and Ryan Phillips (Osage City) were the winners of
the two B Features, respectively.
The 2nd night of the Capital City Clash gets underway Friday night.
