EASTERN MUSEUM OF MOTOR RACING TO AGAIN HOST
NATIONAL SPRINT CAR HALL OF FAME ‘REUNION EAST’
by: Thomas J Schmeh
KNOXVILLE, IOWA (February 27, 2006) - The second annual ‘Eastern
Reunion’ for National Sprint Car Hall of Famers will take place on Saturday
afternoon, April 1, at the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing (EMMR) in York
Springs, Pennsylvania. The free meet-and-greet session with the fans will be
hosted by veteran historian Pat Sullivan of Indianapolis, and will take place
from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Eastern Museum on the Latimore Valley
Fairgrounds. All East-Coast-based inductees into the National Sprint Car Hall of
Fame are invited to participate in the forum, including 2006 inductee Granville
“Buster” Warke of Center Valley, Pennsylvania.
It is expected that last year’s participants, including famed car owner Al
Hamilton and championship drivers Keith Kauffman, Lynn Paxton, Larry “Smokey”
Snellbaker and Ray Tilley, will all be back to join in the festivities at the
Eastern Museum of Motor Racing. It is hoped that other legendary Hall of Famers
like Bobby Allen, Davey Brown (Sr.), Chris Economaki, and Steve Smith might also
be able to be present. In a surprise announcement, ’06 inductee and
racer-turned-author Newton “Buzz” Rose of Arizona said that he is also planning
on being on-hand for the affair. And it is possible that another Midwest-based
inductee will make the effort to go east this year, much like sprint car
owner/mechanic/builder Bob Trostle did in 2005.
Joe Heisler III is helping coordinate the activities, as he does each October
with the annual EMMR/NSCHoF Benefit Auction at the Williams Grove National Open.
Those seeking more information on the EMMR, which will be open from 10 a.m.
until 4 p.m. on that opening day, are encouraged to visit their web site at
www.emmr.org. Jim Cadwell, a former racer at
the Knoxville Raceway in the Fifties, will be part of the Knoxville-based
museum’s delegation. Those seeking more info on the NSCHoF are asked to visit
the national museum’s web site at
www.sprintcarhof.com.
