INTERNATIONAL 360 SPRINT CAR FORUM SCHEDULED FOR AUGUST 6
by: Thomas J Schmeh
KNOXVILLE, IOWA (June 10, 2006) - The fifth annual International 360 Sprint Car
Forum will be held at the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum in Knoxville
on Sunday afternoon, August 6. The forum, which is open to track promoters and
sanctioning officials involved in 360-cubic-inch sprint car racing, will feature
a general discussion of the major challenges facing the sport today.
According to forum coordinator Tom Schmeh, “It was at the meeting four years ago
that American Sprint Car Series president Emmett Hahn woke many promoters and
sanctioning officials up to the presence of traction control in sprint car
racing. Three years ago, Mike Seiver of Empire Super Sprints and John Zimmerman
of the then United Racing Club put forward discussions on one-way in-car radios
and minimum age requirements for sprint car drivers. It really is important for
the leadership of the sport to get together annually to discuss these
administrative and technical issues in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, and
there seems to be no better time nor place than during early August at the
‘Sprint Car Capital of the World’. And I can’t help but think that ‘410’ sprint
car racing might be in a better place today if we’d have worked harder over the
past couple of years to keep everyone on the same page.”
Those wishing to attend this year’s International 360 Sprint Car Forum on
Sunday, August 6, from 12 Noon until 3 p.m., at the National Sprint Car Hall of
Fame & Museum in Knoxville are urged to e-mail Tom Schmeh at tschmeh@sprintcarhof.com.
