Knoxville Raceway Announces 305 Sprint Engine Rules / Schedule
Update
by Bruce Neimeth
KNOXVILLE, IA (Dec. 28, 2006) - Knoxville Raceway released the 305 Sprint Car
engine rules and specifications today that will be used for all six of the
scheduled race dates in 2007, including the April 27th, June 1st and June 15th,
and the September 27th, 28th and 29th events. They are available at
www.knoxvilleraceway.com in
the Rules heading as “2007 305 Engine Rules” for reprint, as well as in the News
section.
The rules are a result of communicating with mid-states based 305 series, engine
builders, components suppliers and most important, drivers and car owners. “It
was evident that most of the engine rules are similar in the basics, but
interpretation and application varies broadly. The biggest differential being in
the heads and how they are prepared,” stated Ralph Capitani, Race Director.
“Hopefully these rules will provide a middle ground that narrows the performance
differences without any major expense to the competitors. We look for
competitive and safe racing that is exciting to our fans that buy the tickets,”
he continued.
According to John McCoy, Competition Director for Knoxville Raceway, “once we
publish the rest of the rules covering chassis, running gear and safety
equipment in mid-January, we will apply the methods and schedules for inspecting
and “teching” that are used for all other sprint car classes and events to the
305 Sprint Car program. Our most important concerns will be safety first, and
then providing a reasonably level ‘playing field’ for everyone.”
The application of the Knoxville Raceway engine rules to all six events is a
change from the original schedule that only referenced using them for the 3-day
Knoxville Mid-States 305 Championships. At the request of many competitors, the
rules will apply to all six of the events, allowing teams to utilize them in
freshening and updating their equipment prior to the beginning of the 2007
season.
The June 1st 305 Sprint Car event, running with the Masters Classic during the
Annual National Sprint Car Hall of Fame Induction weekend, will pay $750.00 to
win, while the 3-day Knoxville Mid-States 305 Sprint Car Championship payout
will exceed $15,000. The April 21st and June 15th events will each pay $350 to
win.
Knoxville Raceway hosts weekly events from April through September, including
winged 305-, 360- and 410-cubic inch sprint cars, late models and midgets. Other
special events include the 47th Annual Super Clean Knoxville Nationals, World of
Outlaws Double Header, the 17th Annual 360 Nationals and the 4th Annual Lucas
Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals. Advanced reserved tickets for all special
events are available online or at the ticket office.
