Brian Brown – Turkey Classic in March!
by: Bill Wright
GRAIN VALLEY, MO (March 11) – Brian Brown is ready to race,
and Saturday he’ll get to do just that. The Brian Brown Racing SuperClean
#21 is primed and ready to go for the postponed Turkey Classic at the
Springfield Raceway near Springfield, Missouri. The Grain Valley, Missouri
driver is planning an even larger schedule in 2009 that will see around 75
races contested.
Brian is excited entering his first season as both owner and driver. “I’m
extremely excited about the possibilities this season,” he says. “It’s great
to be representing a great partner like SuperClean again, as well as the
rest of our sponsors. We had a strong end to the year last year, and we’re
looking to continue that this season. Chad (Morgan), my grandpa (George
Lasoski) and I have been working really hard in the shop this winter to make
sure 2009 is a success. You’re in the shop hours and hours, day after day,
and you’re ready to go race somewhere, that’s for sure.”
Brian ran second in the Inaugural Turkey Classic in 2007, and is looking
forward to running on Saturday. “The weather looks like it’s going to be
o.k.,” he says. “We’ll do our best. We ran there two years ago, and ran
second to my Uncle (Danny Lasoski). We had a good car and challenged for the
lead, but fell a little short. The track seems to suit my style.”
Brian will spend a lot of highway miles in the rig with Morgan, who joined
him last fall. Brian won four of his last ten races (including the Cowtown
Nationals, and finales for the WOW, the NCRA and the Sprint Invaders), and
finished outside of the top five on only two occasions. The team’s goal is
to win 20 features this year. “Our goal has been 20 wins the last few years,
but I haven’t always lived up to my side of the bargain,” he admits. “I
don’t see why we can’t do that with the way we prepared, and the luck falls
our way a bit. You have to win one, before you win 20 though. Chad is eager
to learn, and he loves to win. Hopefully, we can continue doing this for a
long time together.”
Brian’s early schedule will lean toward the Lucas Oil ASCS series before
Knoxville gets started. “The ASCS seems lucrative, and it has the TV
exposure,” he says. “We’ll run the first five or six of those shows, and sit
back and evaluate where we’re at. Hopefully, we’ll be leading the points at
that stage, and we’ll have a decision to make. I’m sure will be at Knoxville
the majority of the time, and the purse increase there is great too. We have
to race as much as we can to keep the bills paid.”
The 2007 Knoxville track champ again plans on running with just about every
organization that is within driving distance. “No matter the association,
we’ll go out and try to win,” says Brian. “It’s exciting to run with ASCS,
and then pick up the IRA, the Outlaws, the NCRA, the Sprint Invaders or the
ASCS-Midwest, and then head to Knoxville. It’s exciting to see how you stack
up. We want to produce better with the Outlaws especially, and get some
better results on the board. We were able to do that a bit last year
(including a 9th at Sedalia and a 5th at Spencer). We’d like to have better
results at Knoxville with them, and be able to challenge for a win.”
On March 20 and 21, the Brian Brown Racing #21 will head to the Devil’s Bowl
Speedway in Mesquite, Texas to compete in the opener for the Lucas Oil ASCS
series.

Brian's Q&A
Fred Schwickerath asks: Have you changed anything equipment-wise over the
winter?
Brian answers: Obviously, we’ll continue with Maxim chassis. That’s my #1
choice, because in my opinion, Mike, Brad, Chuck and everyone else over
there builds the best car. Motor-wise we’ll have Ostrich 410’s, a new one
and a fresh one too. We have an Ostrich 360 and two Wesmar 360’s. It’s a bit
of a mix. We’re still with Pro Shocks, Hoosier Tires, and our other great
support. A lot of people talk about the economy being so bad, but our
manufacturers are still helping the racers, doing anything they can to help,
and doing a tremendous job.
