Construction Continues at National Sprint Car Hall of Fame &
Museum - on Schedule

KNOXVILLE, IA (March 3, 2009) – The off season construction,
on the second floor, at the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum
continues and is on schedule reports Hall of Fame Executive Director, Bob
Baker. Baker also comments that “general contractor”, Roberts Construction
has assured us that all of our projects will be completed by early April”.
Second floor construction projects include the addition of the Research
Center & Library and office for Museum Curator, Tom Schmeh, which has been
completed, and the addition of the Pella Corp Hall of Fame and the US
Smokeless Tobacco Theatre. The Hall of Fame and Theatre construction is
still ongoing but, is expected to be completed, as scheduled, before open
night of racing at the Knoxville Raceway. Opening night for the 2009 racing
season is Saturday April, 25th.
In addition, A Grand Opening reception, for the new second floor additions,
has been scheduled for Friday night May, 1st, the reception is scheduled in
conjunction with the Saturday May, 2nd World of Outlaws special at the
Knoxville Raceway. The reception that will begin at 7:00 pm and end about
9:00 pm is free to the public. Beverages and snacks will be served and all
interested parties are encouraged to attend. Guests will be treated to a
viewing of the Pella Corp Hall of Fame, the US Smokeless Tobacco Theatre and
the Research Center & Library.
After it’s opening this spring, the Pella Corp Hall of Fame is where
visitors will be able to view photographs and the history of all those who
have been inducted into the Hall of Fame since it opening in 1991. And,
after its competition, the US Smokeless Tobacco Theatre will show racing
films, documentaries, news reels and short films from past to present,
utilizing films and video from the archives of the museum. Private showing
may be arranged by calling the Hall of Fame & Museum in advance to schedule
screening during normal operating hours. Persons interested in researching
the history of sprint car racing, and those who have participated in it are
welcome to use the new Research Center & Library and may contact Tom Schmeh,
Museum Curator to arrange an appointment to use the research center/library
during normal operating hours. The addition of the Pella Corp Hall of Fame
and the US Smokeless Tobacco Theatre was made possible by generous
contributions to the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum by: Pella
Corp and US Smokeless Tobacco.
In addition to the new Pella Corp Hall of Fame, the US Smokeless Tobacco
Theatre and the Research Center & Library, the second floor is also home to
the second floor club house area. This area is available for meetings,
banquets and receptions with accommodations for groups up to 150 people. The
club house area is heated/air conditioned and is equipped with a P.A.
system, closed circuit & cable TV, wireless internet and is fully
handicapped accessible including elevators and restrooms. This area is also
available to members and supporters, on race nights for all 2009 racing
events held at the Marion County Fairgrounds. Events include the weekly
Knoxville Championship Cup Series, World of Outlaw Sprint Car events, the
8th annual USAC Midget Nationals, the Masters Classic, the Harris Clash for
Late Models, Modifieds & SportMods, the 19th annual 360 Knoxville Nationals,
the 49th annual 410 Knoxville Nationals, the USAC 410 non-wing Sprint Car
Nationals and the 6th annual Knoxville Late Model Nationals.
