Rotary Club’s Pie & Ice Cream Tent Back at the Sprint Car Museum at Nationals

KNOXVILLE, IOWA (June 19, 2009) - Sprint car fans worldwide can thank Allan Holland of www.hoseheads.com for bringing the pie-and-ice-cream tent back to the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum grounds during this year’s SuperClean Knoxville Nationals, August 12-15. Following last year’s Knoxville Nationals sprint car championships, Allan Holland wrote a column in Sprint Car & Midget magazine about how the Knoxville Nationals had lost a bit of its past magic and he used the disappearance of the Rotary Club’s annual pie-and-ice cream fundraising tent as an example. The Knoxville Rotary Club saw that article and decided that they needed to be back at the museum, offering their famed dessert menu, shade from the hot August sun, and fellowship.

According to Kevin Wadle, president of the Knoxville Rotary Club, “One of our club’s board members circulated Allan’s column at a Rotary board meeting last fall, and I guess we just didn’t realize what an institution we’d become for sprint car fans from all over the world. Over the years, many people from Bobby Gerould in California to Dick O’Brien in New York to Jon Evans in Australia had come to make the Rotary Club tent at the museum a regular stop on their Knoxville Nationals agenda. So, we are returning in 2009 with pie and ice cream, and drinks, for our many loyal fans. Come by, buy some dessert, sit down and relax with fellow sprint car people on the grassy area between the Knoxville Nationals Wall of Champions and the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum. You won’t be disappointed!”

The Knoxville Rotary Club tent will be open from 12 Noon until 7 p.m. each day of the 49th annual SuperClean Knoxville Nationals, presented by Lucas Oil, August 12 through 15. Those wanting more information on the non-profit National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum, which is open seven days a week, year-round, in Knoxville, Iowa, are encouraged to visit its web site at www.sprintcarhof.com or call 641-842-6176.
