"Holy Cow!": Record Number of Entrants (21) for 20-lap Knoxville World Challenge

KNOXVILLE, IOWA (July 18, 2009) - As Hall of Fame announcer Jack Miller used to say at the Knoxville Nationals sprint car championship, “Holy Cow!” It was announced this week that a record number of entries (21) have been received for the 20-lap, $10,000-to-win Knoxville World Challenge invitational to be contested on Friday, August 14, during the 49th annual SuperClean Knoxville Nationals presented by Lucas Oil.

According to director of racing Ralph Capitani, “In recent days we have received entries from Kasey Kahne’s American teammates Joey Saldana and Craig Dollansky, Aussie Matthew Reed, Canadian Chris Schmelzle, and New Zealand-born defending champion Kerry Madsen, which means this year’s 20-lapper should be an outstanding ‘U.S.A. vs. the World’ shootout. Plus, adding interest to the race is the fact that those drivers that competed in one of our five international qualifiers will be fully inverted based upon their qualifying night points. It is shaping up to be one of the best races during the 12-race, 11-night Cox Design Iowa SpeedWeeks, July 31 and August 6-15.”
