”One Dream: Dirt Track Racing” Documentary to Make Iowa
Premiere at
International Reel Wheel Film Festival at Sprint Car Museum on Saturday
KNOXVILLE, IOWA (August 13, 2009) - The “One Dream: Dirt Track Racing”
documentary film will make its Iowa premiere at the International Reel Wheel
Film Festival on Saturday, August 15, at 1 p.m. in the National Sprint Car
Hall of Fame & Museum. The film festival is part of the museum’s annual Fan
Fair, which coincides with the 49th running of the SuperClean Knoxville
Sprint Car Nationals, presented by Lucas Oil. The film was written, directed
and produced by Dr. Matt Jenkins and his Cameron University documentary
class from Lawton, Oklahoma.
According to museum curator Tom Schmeh, “We are incredibly excited to be
hosting the Iowa premiere of a documentary film whose subject matter is
short-track, dirt-track competition, including sprint car racing. And we are
honored to be having Dr. Matt Jenkins, Kyle Luetters, Alexis Del Ciello, and
Cecilio Ramirez join us for the debut of their year-long class project. We
will make sure that we have time for a question-and-answer session with Matt
and his students following the film screening on Saturday afternoon.”
The film festival will open at 11 a.m. with a screening of the 1997
documentary “Super Speedway” with Mario Andretti, which was directed by
Stephen Low and produced by Pietro Serapiglia. Mario Andretti made his
first-ever appearance at the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum
earlier this week at the unveiling of Tony Stewart’s STP-sponsored sprint
car for three-time and defending Knoxville Nationals champion Donny Schatz.
The eleventh annual film festival will conclude at 3 p.m. with a screening
of the 2008 Australian sprint car racing documentary “Kings With Wings”,
which was directed by Rob Macdonald and produced by David Fedirchuk. Said
curator Schmeh, “It is only appropriate to bring this Aussie film back to
the festival as the Knoxville Sprint Car National Championship is truly an
international competition, with fans and teams present representing the
United States, Australia and Canada.”
