KNOXVILLE, IOWA (March 1, 2010) - Following the success of the initial program in the National Sprint Car Museum’s new “Sprint Car 101” Third Thursday Series, the stage is now set for the second program, which is a “Salute to Ralph Capitani & P. Ray Grimes”. The free and open-to-the-public presentation, honoring the past two directors of racing at the storied Knoxville Raceway half-mile dirt track, will take place on the museum’s second floor at 7 p.m. According to museum curator Tom Schmeh today, “It is amazing to think that since weekly auto racing began at Knoxville Raceway in 1954, the Marion County Fair Association’s board of directors has only employed three individuals as promoters or directors of racing to this day. Marion Robinson is no longer with us, but we are excited that we are able to bring Ray and Cappy together for this special reception. It is especially fitting as we are beginning the racing season which will include the fiftieth annual Goodyear Knoxville Nationals presented by Lucas Oil. Ray and Ralph are such a big part of the history and heritage of our sport’s national championship event.” Those individuals interested in learning more about the “Sprint Car 101” Third Thursday Series at the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum are urged to visit www.sprintcarhof.com. The Iowa State University (ISU) solar car team will be feted on Thursday, April 15, at 7 p.m. in a special Earth Day-related program.
